If anyone has tips on how to create background characters that fit the environment but dont take over the visual focal point I would love any tips. I imagine part of it is the overall composition but is there other tips aswell?

I will set my unfinished art as my phonescreen so i can analyze it over time if im currently stuck on the progress. So as i go through the day and analyze my surroundings and other art, when i open my phone, sometimes i have an epiphany of "oh I think if I did this, that may work"

I struggle often having both soft and hard light in an illustration. Finding when to use soft and twhen to do sharp light or highlight. I think maybe as the light rounds the corner of the surface it softens?

I find that mapping out lightpaths/shadows is easier before i place the base colors, because then its easier to tell exactly what base colors to put based on the lighting of the environment

I think ive learned enough about my car and have enough confidence that places wont talk down to me as much anymore (which sucks that it happens at all) but anyways i need to draw my car as a transformer, her name is perfect angle.
