3 connected vignette panels of Speed Demon from Superior Foes of Spider-man, emoting, yelling at a seated Boomerang, who is drinking a beer and not listening, and repeatedly poking Overdrive in the chest. OD is trying to back away.

Old art: supervillain histrionics
(Marvel, please bring this book back into print. I *personally* could sell 20 percent of the numbers you'd need to break even.)

s this an outdoor event?
Yes! BwPCon! will take place entirely outside, surrounding the Books with Pictures building. Tables are mainly planned to be on Orange Ave, on both the sidewalk and a blocked-off portion of the street. The garden area and Division sidewalks both have adequate shade thanks to trees, but the Orange Ave Sidewalk is pretty in the open.

Will there be Food?
Books with Pictures is home to the Shortbox food carts, located on the east side of the building. They will be open throughout the day per their individual hours.

Will there be shelter from the elements?
All vendors will be covered by a tent/canopy! We want to make sure everyone is safe from the sun or rain. (Hey, it’s Portland.)

Can we Cosplay?
ABSOLUTELY. You can, and absolutely should come visit us in your snazziest costumes. The Cosplay Competition signup opens at 10 am, and starts at 1pm!

Can we bring our kid/dog/unicorn/etc?
Yes! BwPCon is an all ages event, and BwP is a dog friendly store. So long as everyone is well behaved, then everyone is welcome. A typewritten letter reads: Dear fellow alumna, Because of my recent book, Class Reunion, and because I am interested in women's progress in the past years, the Ladies' Home Journal has asked me to write an article about what our generation at Radcliffe is thinking today. This brief questionnaire will give me a profile of what has happened to many of us. Would you please take the time to fill it out? I know the results will be helpful not only to all of us but to women all over the country. Thank you. Sincerely, Rona Jaffe ’51 Question: What were your hopes, dreams and expectations when you graduated from college; in terms of work, love and family life?
Answer: I intended to work my way around the world selling subscriptions to Business Week on tramp steamers, ending up in Manila where I would marry a Turkish archaeologist and have four children, until the success of my first opera would bring me to the attention of the Department of Philosophy at Harvard, which hired me as a cover for my still classified work for the C.I.A. in Uzebekistan, after which I would divorce my first husband and marry some corporate executives and have some more children and then fulfil my real ambition which is to make jewel-like jars of quince jelly gleaming on the cellar shelves just like Joan Didion, while writing a lot of best-sellers and the definitive study of the works of Ssu-ma Ch'ien. Question: Was there a point in your life where your values, dreams and/or expectations changed? Please explain.
Answer: all of a sudden when I was 44 I wanted to smash all the jars of quince jelly and go weave sweat pants of natural fibers on a mountainside in Idaho. I cannot explain this.

A selection of Ursula’s VERY SASSY responses to Rona Jaffe’s PERFECTLY REASONABLE questions about her life from a Radcliffe alumna questionnaire ca. 1980 (never submitted, sadly). Thanks to Julie Phillips for this gem.

is it time to bust out my "bigfoot is bears" photo collection again? if your mental image of a bear is a thick-furred, fat glossy male bear in autumn, you're probably not prepared for how weird their proportions can look in spring, or when walking upright, like they frequently do.

I think Bob Gellner bought or leased Mary’s space when she moved out. When I was too little to think about collecting, he had Bob’s Comics (1970s) in a small space upstairs/above the original Dragon’s Lair and Mary’s selling old comics. That was before comics Direct Market even.

I went to Mary’s frequently.

There was also an older couple
with a used book and miscellanea store not too far away. I was focused on mystery novels and Sax Rohmer when I was last in there
