A royal portrait of Princess Celestia from My Little Pony: Friendship is magic. She is painted in a realistic style, standing in front of a stone wall with a sun etching on it. She has a raised hoof and large flowing mane and tail that look like they are made of plasma.

A few years ago I was compelled to paint two portraits of Princess Celestia and Princess Luna from MLP:FIM. I left them out of my art book due to trademark concerns, but I can share here the two pages I would have put in the book, complete with my notes to the pictures. 1/4

My photo shows part of a limestone wall panel carved in bas relief from the Fifth Dynasty mortuary temple of king Userkaf at Saqqara, Old Kingdom, 2465-2458 BC. It shows a Hoopoe, a crested bird with black and white wing pattern, and an ibis, with long curved beak, amongst papyrus plants in the marshes of the river Nile. My photo was taken in 2022 at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.

Since I became a father in 2021 I find myself worrying a lot more about the future, but also having a keener sense of reality and how messy and complicated it is. I’ve been fantasizing a lot about anthros living in solarpunk-ish near future settings as a way to process those feelings.
