Agree. It’s the only one to have moved my children to tears.
Felt compelled to watch the ferret episode of Gideon on YouTube after listening as I have no recollection at all of the cartoon. That last line of Gideon’s song about the fisherman: ‘But oh what fun, when he was made to die for Gideon.’ 💀
Blackball (2003). Not good.
Personal favourite. Hippo Books, 1985.
Was thinking just the same late morning yesterday, Selby Abbey.
Loved this as a child and was delighted to hear it discussed on Looks Unfamiliar. I still get a frisson of excitement and hear the theme tune every time I see a handheld STOP/GO sign at roadworks.
Watched ep. 1 of this with my 9yo the other day. I loved it when it first aired, and it holds up well today.
The detail of the carvery (plus cola bottles for dessert) on day #3…
Selby Abbey in the sun. A stunning building, inside and out. I’m fortunate enough to call it my workplace.
Selby Abbey is looking for a Community Engagement Co-ordinator and a Volunteer Co-ordinator to work on its Origin Stories project. Visit selbyabbey.org.uk to find out more.

🤣 Hairy babies? No idea. I hope this isn’t a Still Any Good in-joke that’s passed me by. I’m looking forward to listening during my Monday morning commute and finding out.
I’ve never seen this, but I’m curious to as IMDb alleges that it stars Sean O’Kane (AKA TV’s The Interceptor) as ‘Running Student’.
This was great. Big dinners AND Dr Boobescu in one episode? You’re spoiling us.
There is indeed a good chance that it will be! I'm still sorting out the details though, so keep an eye on yorkarchaeology.co.uk/events/ for all symposium updates.
The Richard Hall Symposium returns to its Festival of Ideas slot for 2025. This year's theme is 'A Day Out with the Vikings'.

Happy 41st birthday, JORVIK! The Viking Centre opened for the first time on this day in 1984. This short film tells the story of how it came to be.
Had a lovely time with the @yorkarchaeology.bsky.social gang, charging into battle with vikings.
Pre-book a ticket while they're still available, and I'll see you there!
I always do!
I’ve never quite fancied watching this in its entirety, so a SAG synopsis will do nicely.

Obituary | Kirsty Archer-Thompson, 1987-2024
As curator at Abbotsford, home of Sir Walter Scott, Kirsty's creative approach transformed how visitors experience the site.
This postcard image shows the ‘time tunnel’ portion of the original JORVIK Viking Centre. I’ll be speaking about JORVIK version 1.0 at the JORVIK Viking Festival next month.
