Plenty of astronauts and cosmonauts have reported that seeing the Earth from orbit, free of arbitrary political borders, is a humbling, perspective-building exercise. Thankfully, NASA under Sean Duffy is prioritizing manned exploration of the Moon and Mars! Uh, to build a nuclear reactor.

I think the fact that we haven't been back in 50 years is an embarrassment and a waste. Yes, the primary motives for that mission were cynical and political, and the human achievement it actually represented was secondary, but space exploration to me is a lynchpin of a future world peace.

We're close to a point in human history where every human who ever walked on another world is dead and cannot relay their memories of the experience first-hand. This makes me deeply sad and is a big part of why I am rooting so hard for Artemis to succeed and not get delayed.

Even though Jim Lovell never walked on the Moon, his death inspired me to look up how many astronauts that did are still alive. Four: Buzz Aldrin (Apollo 11), David Scott (Apollo 15), Charles Duke (Apollo 16), and Harrison Schmitt (Apollo 17).
