NYC is planning to open a digital tech-focused high school that "would make students 'builders as well as ethical users of AI'".
Meanwhile, the City has not yet come out with an AI policy for schools themselves. Very concerning. This is a decision that communities should make.
and specifically addressed by the City's Office of Algorithmic Accountability, which sets strict minimum standards for the ethical use of AI by city agencies.
Read my recent op-ed about how NYS and NYC need communities to lead on decision-making around AI - if, how, and when it is used:
"In predominantly white NY neighborhoods, similar battery projects have been withdrawn. For example, a large facility planned on Staten Island was canceled without explanation."
SE Queens has taught me: the energy transition will be just, or it won't happen.

"[T]to eat sustainably, individuals should consume no more than 255 grams—or about ½ a pound—of pork or poultry per week.
"The study also makes clear that beef, lamb and other red meats are not compatible with a sustainable future under current environmental constraints."
It's a community school in Brooklyn. They get all meals free and they draw from about 10 different cultural traditions for meals every month. The Black Panthers have a bigger daily impact on her education than any tech company and I seriously hope it stays that way.
Many of the teachers at my daughter's NYC elementary school uses the flat screen TVs they were given a few years ago as bulletin boards, and the hallways are decorated with students' handwritten essays. I love it there.

Six years ago, police burst into Breonna Taylor’s home in the middle of the night and took a life that should still be here today.
Justice delayed, accountability denied, and her name still carries the weight of a system that failed her.
We remember Breonna Taylor. #SayHerName

The Senate has passed a major housing bill that cracks down on large investors who are buying up single-family homes.
It's a promising first step towards getting Wall Street out of our homes and making housing affordable again.

Please go do a colonoscopy. You feel nothing and afterward you will truly have the best sleep you've had in a long time. Better that than the forever sleep.
I wrote about a museum that is near and dear to my heart, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History
The way many European countries cut their global health funding commitments, the second the US did, reminds me of the way that so many companies abandoned their DEI commitments when the regime issued anti-DEI EOs. It's almost as if they didn't really support what they were doing in the first place.
For weeks now, I've shared information about HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS protesting ICE REGULARLY. So much so that whole states like Kansas and Texas are rolling out LAWS to sanction schools and laws to criminalize TEENAGERS. Please let's be serious.
"Pentagon tells lawmakers Iran war costs top $11.3bn – but true price unknown
The US already spent more than $11.3bn in first six days of conflict, but price tag does not include all spending"
Sickening.

"Patients and communities can play a direct role.
Ask your clinic: “What happens to my data beyond this visit? Do you have policies that protect it from ICE?”
Ask your hospital whether they contract with companies that also work with ICE."
There are hospitals/health systems that have contracts with Palantir, which also contracts with ICE - this is a major ethical conflict and risk to patient data.

California is the only state to make immigration status and place of birth protected medical information.
But California and other states can do more to protect patients and their data from ICE.

🚨Invisible data pathways can expose patient information to ICE.
🗣️In my new op-ed, I urge CA + all states to:
1️⃣ Require state-funded health systems to disclose data sharing w/ outside companies
2️⃣ Bar vendors that contract with ICE
3️⃣ Give patients clear notice on data collected and who can access it
Palantir helped provide the targeting of the Iranian elementary school, but we're supposed to trust them with our medical systems?

Six years ago WHO declared COVID-19 a pandemic. Despite tens of millions of deaths, the world has not sufficiently addressed the ongoing impacts of COVID-19, and we are more vulnerable to future pandemics due to anti-science officials leading government agencies around the world.
Thanks for amplifying this message!!
Agree wholeheartedly with @oniblackstock.bsky.social: "Hospitals and clinics should be places of care — not places where people are tracked, monitored or detained."
California health care facilities must be sanctuaries from ICE www.sacbee.com/opinion/op-e... via @sacbee.com
Vinay Prasad announced without evidence that COVID19 vaccines caused the deaths of 10 children.
Members of ACIP have made numerous false claims about how harmful they believe COVID19 vaccines are.
Now, ACIP won’t be discussing them because it’s political poison.
They were lying all along.
This website mentions some, but it is not comprehensive. For example, our public hospital system here has a contract with them, and they are not listed on the website.
Um.
Is there a list somewhere where we can find out if our local health systems are partnered with Palantir? 👀
