There's also the fact that I've already finished it and not cared for it before so on a replay I know exactly what I'm expecting going in

Yeah I know the wild zone is boring as hell but I know that they went somewhere with that after the fact with the SV open world being actually fun to traverse

Honestly i think a big reason I'm enjoying Shield more despite it still being the same very lackluster game is that now that mainline Pokemon games are good again after that there's none of the "oh we're cooked" now

It's just the funky midfle ground in the transition to a proper console now
