It isn't! It's the reason I am also fond of the dark.
It's like you go into a room and imagine "oh man if I see that that would be really creepy", and then imagining it so hard you its just there in your mind's eye.
I don't know how common that is, cause I am a wimp at heart, it might just be me.
A friend of mine has aphantasia too, but recently she managed to see something in her mind's eye. It startled her XD
So it might be possible to train yourself to do it if it's a skill you desire
(I am able to see images with my eyes OPEN, which has contributed to my fear of being alone ;w;)
