@molly0xfff Would you consider tagging your newsletter syndicated Fedi posts with something unique? I'd love to filter them out. I'm a paid subscriber and <3 <3 <3 Citation Needed, but I listen in podcast form and also really value your non newsletter posts here.

@glyph For sure. The key is the way it integrates into your dev workflow SO seamlessly. Any other stand alone GUI thing loses on that score just as a starter.
@neovim has Neogit and Gitsigns and I've used both but neither provided the same kind of bang for buck that Magit does so ultimately I […]

@brouhaha Thank you! I'll try anything :) I suspect you just need to get used to it.

Went to see an allergist for the first time yesterday.
She prescribed a saline / steroid sinus rinse.
It's kinda like waterboarding yourself. I'm sure I'll get used to it, and if it will help me not need to constantly fight the battle of my head becominga giant bag of explosively compressed […]

Well that's interesting.
For all the struggles I've had trying to get modern web browsers to not perform like hot garbage on this 2009 Macbook Pro..
I'm typing this on Firefox latest and it performs like a champ.
Credit where credit is due #firefox. Well done!

@latenightlinux @felimwhiteley It amuses me that you can't even begin to imagine why people enjoy puttering around with retrocomputing.
For me, it's because I feel like we're DROWNING in a sea of computing complexity and working on a machine I can understand EVERY SINGLE byte of is like a […]

@nmamatas.bsky.social Thank you! Turns out I can't directly reply to posts from Blue Sky folks. Nothing's perfect I guess :)

Woot! The Bluesky bridge works. Really appreciate the folks behind @bsky.brid.gy who make this work!
I will definitely donate when I can.

Somehow, "learn how to mess with Homebrew builds" ended up being something I did years after I stopped using a Mac.

Hrrm. I deleted my bluesky account and asked @bsky.brid.gy to bridge my account there.
No sign of https://bsky.app/feoh.org
I'll give it a number of hours and look again.
It's possible my bsky account deletion didn't percolate all the way through before I activated the bridge.

Nvim 0.11.5 has been released.
This is mostly for bugfixes and performance, and comes with a bonus feature:
in help buffers, `gx` command now opens help tags in the web browser.
Also, windows ARM64 binaries are now available.
Source, binaries and full change logs […]

The one thing I'm struggling a bit with the 2009 Macbook Pro is web browsing.
Was using Falkon, but that hangs/crashes every few minutes.
Trying Midori now, that seems to crash less, and perforks "OK" but is still a bit slow.
Glad I undertook this project even if, in the end analysis I […]

@Yhg1s @glyph @offby1 @amethyst @petrillic @ThePSF Thank you all so much for doing this. My wife and I just sent another donation.
If there were a plaque memorializing the great and the good of the Python community, your names would most definitely be on it!

Have you been considering donating, but worried that we might be running out of space? Worry not! A new challenger appears! @Yhg1s has committed ANOTHER $5000 match, raising our total matching funds to $17,000, which (modulo a few additional receipts I need to process) means we are down to 43%.

5 days remain on this matching campaign, but sooner is better, $1.5MM is a lot to replace!

In light of the PSF's recent loss of an NSF grant and attendant funding shortfall, I will be matching donations up to $5000. Send me your receipts.
Very happy if you've already donated for similar reasons but the point is to motivate *new* donations so be sure the timestamp is after this toot 😉.

It's true: I've joined @glyph, @offby1, @amethyst and @petrillic in gift-matching donations to @ThePSF

@dashdsrdash that’s honestly not a bad idea! Maybe just big easy to read text with an accompanying apropos Web comic or something for visual interest :-)

If I weren't such a non fan of tattoos comprised solely of text (They tend to, IMO, age badly unless they're REALLY big) I would seriously consider getting "Think Big. Don't Fixate. Don't stay stuck. JUST DO IT" tattooed somewhere very visible.

What is the best way to run/install an NPM package as a tool that I run from the command-line globally? E.g. `netlify-cli` or `@anthropic-ai/claude-code` where I don't have a `node_modules` directory where I want to run the tool (there are other tools, so don't consider this exhaustive)..
I […]
