Straw Bale Shed Two-thirds of the world's population inhabit buildings made of earth. Straw bale buildings have proven to be as durable as other types of buildings; they have better fire ratings than standard construction, great insulation ratings and are resistant to rodents and other pests (including wolves). Also, straw is an annual renewable resource! The straw bale shed is a physical demonstration of an environmentally friendly building. Each material used in this shed was chosen to minimize impact to the environment during its harvesting and manufacturing, and to provide the highest levels of energy efficiency over the lifespan of the building. Materials were purchased locally and where possible, recycled products were bought or obtained. The vegetation on this roof has been planted as part of a research project by Ryerson University. The Annie Shed is donated in loving memory of Anne Callahan who adored flowers, plants, gardens and gardening.

It's a hard sell ✊🏼

I say straw is compostable and that's fantastic. Many people ask me what about the plaster that doesn't come off. Is that really a problem?
Just tested this with a workshop scrap straw panel from Maxit and old lime plaster.

Rapidly renewable materials, reused parts, recyclates and earth vs the old world steel and concrete remnants.
Given the status quo and lack of climate and technology aware regulations this is still good practice.

According to the architect it did not matter (in this case) due to being calculated for snow loads.
For other buildings this will likely differ.

Look at the sweet little gate lintel and the PV inverter armada.

I find it very strange that US air conditioning devices are not supposed to be able to heat. Here, globally manufactured devices are usually designed to both heat and cool. That being said, the small ac plug and play units + insulation will drive decarbonization of heating globally.
