Meanwhile, Texas Democrats are showing up as the most unified bloc to Do Something since November.

like if you're *anywhere* left-of-center there is absolutely nothing about interstate migration patterns over the past four years that should make you feel smug or vindicated; the only appropriate reactions are to stop the bleeding and to urgently build power where power is now concentrating

I don't know how many of these people are "rich" but we really gotta stop pretending that Texas and Florida aren't growing, that they aren't amassing substantial economic and political power, and that nobody wants to be there

The fight going on in the Democratic Party right now is not between hard left, left and moderate. Itโ€™s between those who want to fight and those who want to cave. And Team Fight stretches across all ideological aspects of the Party. Misread this at your own peril.

I have no idea what's going to happen, but I do know that Democrats must go full Anatol Rapoport on this

The thing about the escalating gerrymandering prisoner's dilemma is that the number 1 mandate of the NRCC is incumbent protection, and Blue state retaliation acutely threatens that. Losses loom larger than gains is both psychologically true and functionally true for the congressional committees.

Who doesnโ€™t read books in America? Roughly a quarter of American adults (23%) say they havenโ€™t read a book in whole or in part in the past year.

"Americans ages 50 and older, for example, are more likely than their younger counterparts to be non-book readers."

The Las Vegas Sphere lacks the courage to create my game where the crowd sits below a colossal eldritch deity enthroned on a planet of madness and all 18,600 people must perform โ‚ฎโฑงษ† โฑคล‚โ‚ฎษ„โ‚ณโฑ  correctly to appease its unholy wrath

As a political consultant (derogatory) allow me to posit that we would significantly less electoral power concentrated with consultants if political work came with persistent employment. But we have boom and bust jobs because we have boom and bust budgets because we have boom and bust incentives.

Using LLM Embeddings to Normalize User Data How cosine similarity in embedding space can power high-quality normalization.

I wrote about using LLM embeddings to normalize user data and how that could apply to political campaigns who want to better understand their supporters. No chatbots involved!

Okay fine, take all the regular Econ surveys out of the Census bureau and give that work to BLS and give that to the Fed

the thing about the 2008 financial crisis is that in 2007, people generally still had to sit down at a desk a consider whether to write nonsense words to the internet

Okay so I got curious enough about that long-tail of outliers and it turns out the embedding model really did differentiate workers from non-workers across both O*NET data and donor data. That's pretty cool to see!

Hilariously, the Libertarian Party is the only national political party with a registered word mark. Congratulations to them on that government service.

"Democratic Party" isn't even trademarked. Neither is Republican Party. USPTO often sends a "merely descriptive" or "geographically descriptive" refusal. Some logos registered. And some committee names are too.

I do agree that it's damaging to the Democratic Partyโ€™s brand that literally anyone can launch a mass voter-contact org with โ€œDemocraticโ€ or โ€œProgressiveโ€ in the name, say or do anything, and be indistinguishable from the Party itself.

I have a partially-formed thought that the current state of AI is akin to the earlier days of social media when things were open-ish. Easy to wrap Twitter data or hit Facebook GraphQL or Netflix API and do fun/weird stuff. And then suddenly not. This is why I'm skeptical on Meta's "open" AI posture.

I like AI products. I use AI products all day. I pay for the privilege to use AI products all day. But I'm not so naive to miss the fact that this, like everything, will eventually converge to ad tech.
