Stacks Books are delighted to announce we'll be at Salusbury Sunday Market tomorrow (Sunday, 2nd February)! Please come by to see our latest collection of vintage & second hand books and also to check out the other artisan stalls. Opening hours are 10am to 2pm, next to Queens Park Farmers Market.
One more stall before Christmas. Come find us in the back of Parrishes this Friday (December 20th) between 10am and 3pm if you're in the Thaxted area. Books make great presents and as John Waters said: "If you go home with somebody and they don't have books, don't fuck them".
Feeling very productive this week! Both our Ebay and Etsy stores are now set up and ready to go. It will be for our £10 plus books - mainly rarer books or early editions. Links to both in our bio.
Stacks Books has now opened an Ebay store! (Slowly adding stock - it's a fiddly business). www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?i...
Breaking news! We now have an Etsy shop. Mainly for our rarer books. Please find us on stacksbooks.etsy.com
Adventurers in Bookselling Day 2. Yesterday we only had four customers. But despite that, and one gentleman bartering us down from £2.99 to £2.50, our low expectations (£5) were exceeded. So we’ve decided to squeeze one more in before Christmas. On December 20th and hopefully with mulled wine.
Day 2 of bookselling is this Thursday. If you're in the Thaxted area between 10am and 3.30pm, please stop by. We're in the back of Parrishes. We do free gift wrapping! Also, judging by last week's near miss there's a high chance we'll sell you a book for £3 that's worth nearer two hundred pounds...
One of our favouring visitors was an older gentleman who informed us he doesn't buy books and only uses the library now. He walks in and out of the library several times a day as he believes they are noting the number of entrances. He's determined not to lose his local library. A local hero. 2/2
Selling books is fun, thank goodness. We met an eclectic bunch including a lovely mother and daughter from Germany who bought 3 books as a reminder of their visit to the UK. A young couple came in who were on a day trip from Walthamstow. Friends & family stopped by and insisted on buying books. 1/2
Stacks Books guide to a profitable first day... Get your neighbour with the vintage shop to let you put up a stall in the back for free. Ask friends & family to offload their unwanted books to you. It's surprising how many will. Offer to giftwrap bought books for free. Bombard local Facebook pages.
Day One of selling books is done. Turns out book selling is easy! We made £77.90 on our first day. (If we don't deduct the spend on materials, pricing gun and counterfoil receipt book. Oh and lunch.)
