It’s the same. I find that there are few of us who are fortunate. I have a couple of friends who have to literally act like they’re broke simply because of what family thinks about their pockets. They end up being paying for everything in the holidays.

She had to remove all our photos off of social media platforms with immediate effect so that we don’t kill their racist Gogo with our photos. Needless to say the relationship didn’t last… and to be honest I hope that the Gogo didn’t last either…

She then tells me how upset it made her as if I must go do something about it. Her brother was also known for just thinking that black people are dumb. And now… she was dating one?!

Her mother pulled her aside later saying to her:” You can’t tell anyone about this. Your granny will literally die if she found that you’re dating a black guy. You can’t say a word.”

She gets off the bus and I’m getting my embracing on. We were still in uni. So I grabbed her bag and we started to head back to res as the happy chessboard couple we were.

I had been waiting at the bus station for my girlfriend to get back from Stellenbosch. I know, I should have picked it up from knowing that she’s from Stellenbosch. She arrived and I was excited to see her after a few weeks.
