Thermometers reached their limits and one even "exploded" as a heatwave blasted Geraldton and surrounding towns on Sunday.
23.12.2024 07:58 β π 23 π 9 π¬ 3 π 2One of the last things I was expecting was a bushfire in Olympic Park, just around the block from my apartment.
Fortunately it was extinguished fairly quickly, but still kinda scary, especially when the wind picked up lol.
Thanks especially goes to the brave firefighters of NSW Fire & Rescue!
Hey, it's my birth year!
(I am so sorry about your revelation X3)
Not to mention, as the Commission points out, that the Australian Capital Territory is already entirely leasehold-only, and that Queensland is also mostly leasehold-only.
So yeah, conclusion is: Today's governments are fucking wusses. End thread, lol. π§΅
The Commission stated that even if there were staunch opposition, there is no other real way to effectively eliminate profit-making from land, and noted the benefits include lowered capital costs for housing, lowered cost in not having to purchase land, and reduced need for govt subsidies. π§΅
10.12.2024 08:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The Commission looked at the concerns of a UK Committee who also looked at nationalisation, and refuted them; noting that "political controversy" isn't a valid objection to desirable policy, and that such a thing shouldn't be daunting given war-time experience in running a planned economy. π§΅
10.12.2024 08:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0One of the more radical suggestions that I would like to highlight was the recommendation the Commission made for land nationalisation, i.e. conversion of all freehold to leasehold-only. Seeing how speculative holders hoard land and misuse it expecting profit, it saw a need for change. π§΅
10.12.2024 08:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0These included government regulation of the pricing of rent and construction materials, of land transfers, etc, and participation of government in building housing. Given the Commission's findings that adequate housing was not even built *before* the war, this was deemed absolutely necessary. π§΅
10.12.2024 08:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The Commission acknowledged directly how greed led to crisis, and that it was not something going to change even once the war was over. Seeing the failures of the market, the Commission strongly urged the government take over and continue war-time measures, and also suggested more radical actions. π§΅
10.12.2024 08:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The Commonwealth Housing Commission's final report is quite an interesting look into the war-time approach to a housing crisis of nearly identical conditions as that of today. War-time experience had seen governments confident in their ability to supplement market economics with central planning. π§΅
10.12.2024 08:47 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The bourgeois enjoy having an outcry about morality, strikes and boycotts, and so-called "terrorism" when workers do it.
Meanwhile, the state and the bourgeoisie constantly deploy its laws, police and military upon the working class, which is nothing more than an apparatus of capitalist terror.

09.12.2024 08:36 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It is nice to see class consciousness amongst people gradually growing, as pitting workers against each other (many times, quite literally) has been one of capitalism's greatest weapons for protecting itself.
I hope to see the proletariat at large become organised.
They will never knowβ¦
06.12.2024 05:31 β π 105 π 9 π¬ 3 π 1I shouldn't be surprised that the capitalist state is staunchly opposed to trade unions, but dawg this is like a parody.
I'm gonna kms I hate this country.

As a city planning student, hearing about the dominance of consultancy firms has been bizarre. My state government outsources business cases and studies to private consultants quite often, because, apparently, the Department "doesn't have the resources to do it internally".
Okay it's time for a little fursona posting
