Bit of a reverse Black Friday tip. Go buy a book from an independent bookshop. While the richest companies in the world have another bonanza, put a smile on the face of a struggling writer and bookseller. Thank you x

In my large, mostly rural community of 19,000 (Selwyn, Ontario) we have 3 vibrant libraries, each offering a range of services and programs and with the number of people using them going up each year. Of course, I use the library!

Makes me sad re-reading this amazing letter from ex-Watergate Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox sent to high school seniors in 1994 after they asked him “What should Americans learn from Watergate?” 20 years later in ‘94.

His answer is remarkable—unfortunately things didn’t work out so well in 2024.

I agree. I’ve had eight books published and while I speak about the latest at festivals and media interviews I can’t read them again as I’ve already read/edited 10 times and my mind is on my next book.
