New BIG paper out! 🔔 This one has been a long journey
Everyone praises interdisciplinarity, but when it comes down to practice… well, it’s a challenge 😅
Very happy on that one, thank you to all my co-authors, reviewers and editor !

1️⃣Litter underestimates diversity of leaf herbivory damages
2️⃣Galls can be reliable proxies for paleoenvironmental studies
3️⃣These findings remind us to rethink how fossil leaves are used to reconstruct past ecosystems, accounting for biases from decay and selective preservation

3/ Parrotia’s two species now thrive in sharply different climates—subtropical forests for P. subaequalis, temperate (even near mediterranean biome) for P. persica.
I’m currently modeling Parrotia’s ecological niche across time, from present to deep past… more soon 😉

2/ We detected clear signatures of divergent selection and local adaptation, especially in genes linked to stress resistance, growth, and floral development. Local adaptation involves many genes related to stress tolerance, pathogen defense, flowering, and photosynthesis!

1/ Parrotia challenges the idea of evolutionary stagnation—our results reveal a complex adaptive history.
We show that its two species diverged around 19.6 million years ago, each adapting to very different environments despite their similar morphology.

Evolutionary legacy of the “living fossil” genus Parrotia (Hamamelidaceae): genomic insights into species divergence and polygenic adaptation Parrotia is a Tertiary relict “living fossil” tree genus with two extant species (P. subaequalis and P. persica) exhibiting a disjunct distribution between East Asia and West Asia. Despite their long....

🎉 Excited to share our new paper on the genetics of #Parrotia is finally out!

This project was a long journey with a fantastic team, shedding new light on the evolution of this “living fossil.”

I/We have to be fair and change the wording.

From Plant-Insect interactions ➡️ To Plant-Arthropod interactions.

The challenge is that this topic has been indexed as "plant-insect interactions" within the fossil record studies. How should we deal with it? 💭🤔
