Researchers find a hint at how to delay Alzheimer's symptoms. Now they have to prove it An experimental treatment appears to postpone Alzheimer's symptoms in some people genetically destined to get the disease at a young age.

First hint that anti-amyloid antibodies may delay symptom onset. This preliminary study is the basis of an NIH grant that is now stalled.

National Cancer Institute Employees Canโ€™t Publish Information on These Topics Without Special Approval Vaccines. Fluoride. Autism. Communications involving these and 20 other โ€œcontroversial, high profile, or sensitiveโ€ topics will get extra scrutiny under Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

1- Important reporting by @propublica.org regarding potential censorship of research findings at the National Cancer Institute - with implications both for academic freedom and for the advancement of science.

And this is BEFORE Bhattacharyaโ€™s confirmation vote.

If Bhattacharya becomes NIH director heโ€™ll weaponize the whole NIH grant portfolio like thisโ€” to serve political ends. Not just for vaccines but to punish universities Republicans do not like.

Alcohol and cancer risk: what you need to know Experts weigh in on the risks of moderate drinking โ€” and how people should assess them.

What are the risks of cancer from drinking alcohol?

I reported on this for @nature.com and summarized what the science says - and how to think about the risks.

As we learn Gene Hackman had severe Alzheimerโ€™s, we find out that Trump and Musk are killing research into Alzheimerโ€™s cures.

The Trump/Musk crime spree has to be stopped. Get their hands off our government.

The @standupforscience.bsky.social DC rally is on.

What we are hearing from around the country:
"this is big!"
"biggest rally I have seen around here in years and years"

The public cares about medical research--and students, GenZ, and other people too are ready to stand up.

Yes. Journalists should note this:
Every science or tech student, age 5-35 today, is looking at the destruction of their career prospects due to Trump and Musk.

We should be interviewing those students and talking about the impact to their lives.

Is It Time to Approve Drugs Based on Amyloid Removal? | ALZFORUM

Read through all the comments on this article. It is a fascinating discussion on whether reductions in AD related brain changes (e.g. reduction in amyloid plaques) is enough to approve a drug. Or should clinical trials still be required to show a change in actual symptoms of AD?
