When miscarriages become crimes 412 women faced criminal charges for pregnancy outcomes. This is what fetal personhood looks like.

What happens when a miscarriage is treated like a crime?
That’s not a hypothetical anymore. It’s happening in the U.S. right now. 🧡 www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Israeli conductor in Gaza protest unlikely to perform in homeland again Ilan Volkov, who spoke out against the conflict during a BBC SSO Proms performance this month, said he was β€˜trying to do whatever I as an individual can do’

Israeli conductor arrested during a Gaza protest says it’s unlikely he’ll ever be allowed to perform in his home country againβ€”and that he regrets nothing.

JD Vance appropriating the term "blood libel" to describe legitimate criticism of ICE agents is one of the most antisemitic things I have heard in US politics in the past few weeks. Yet this administration has somehow managed to convince a lot of people it actually cares about fighting antisemitism.

Trump has seized investigative and prosecutorial weapons that, in order to safeguard the rule of law, have traditionally been walled off from the president.

SCOTUS handed him these loaded weapons.

Sure as hell looks like the UK needs electoral reform. If you put *these* voting preferences into FPTP...I mean, good God you could get just about any outcome, and none of them would be meaningfully democratic

New York, November 22, 2006-The Committee to Protect Journalists marked its 25th anniversary
by honoring four journalists with its 2006 International Press Freedom Awards in a
ceremony Tuesday night which highlighted record-setting attacks on the press in Iraq.
More than 850 people attended the benefit dinner which raised $1.3 million. It was co-chaired by Robert A. Iger, president and chief executive officer of the Walt Disney Company, and John S.
Carroll, the Knight Visiting Lecturer at the Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics, and Public Policy at Harvard University. Christiane Amanpour, CNN's Chief International Correspondent and CPJ board member, hosted the dinner.

I’m old enough to remember when Bob Iger, whose company recently paid $16 million to settle a meritless Trump lawsuit, and who just indefinitely suspended Jimmy Kimmel under pressure from the Trump administration, was a chair for the **Committee to Protect Journalists** dinner.

UM chancellor called the reshared post "hurtful" and "insensitive," and supposedly violates their "institutional values of civility, fairness, and respecting the dignity of each person."

Seems like the "facts don't care about your feelings" crowd cares a lot about certain people's feelings.

Did you know your MacBook has a sensor that knows the exact angle of the screen hinge?

It’s not exposed as a public API, but I figured out a way to read it and make it sound like an old wooden door.

Americans clearly don’t understand that this line of argument is entirely lost for at least a generation. Talk about the US as representing β€œdemocracy” or β€œthe free world” will be met with scorn everywhere. The world has converged to Latin America in that regard.

Octavia Butler predicted our dystopian present. What can a futurist learn from her chilling accuracy? β€œShe painted a very clear picture about survival.”

Rather than being protectors of the status quo (as they run in 2024), democrats should be the party of "our institutions are broken and here's a set of reforms we propose: multi-member districts/PR, congress expansion, term limits for judges...."

β€œThis is Trump’s famine”: How the US is complicit in Gaza’s suffering An American-funded food distribution network provided Israel cover as starvation spread.

Trump has overseen a disastrous shift in how aid is distributed in Gaza. The US is no longer just a funder and ally to Israel, it is now supporting and carrying out the deadly aid program.

The US long decried famine as a tool of war. Now it is implementing it www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
