Cats get a bad rap for not appreciating their toys. But mine seems to understand when something is hers, and she loves her toys! I recently found her "kitten," a little stuffed cat that she hadn't played with in a few years, and she was so excited I felt like a monster for not finding it sooner.
1. Horrifying ruling out of the 4th Circuit.
An all-Republican 4th Circuit panel has just ruled that states can compel trans adults to "appreciate their sex" by enacting care bans.
It even directly says that trans adult care bans are legal in the ruling.

I'm starting to seriously think about trying to make foam cosplay armor, and it's entirely because I want to develop my "Sexy Magneto" drag routine.
Also, it's weird being loyal to a comic book shop because I feel like I'm cheating on them if I go to a different one. I was on vacation during Free Comic Book Day a couple years ago and went to a shop in that town, and I felt like I was having an affair.
One of my goals for this year is to be more budget-conscious, and the hardest part of this is accepting it may benefit me (and my dwindling storage space) to cut back on the comics I buy. Going digital might also be a more economical option, but I like supporting my local comic book shop.
I think a kid in my neighborhood was selling lemonade this weekend, but it was hard to tell because they were just standing in their yard holding up a piece of paper that had a drawing of a glass of lemonade on it. Whatever they were doing, I respect the effort.
You too can be the next big thing in edook fublishing.
The approximate cause of death for Anne Frank was the Nazis. The specific cause of death was the outbreak of Typhus at Bergen-Belsen camp, which overtook her (and others) from chronic malnutrition and medical abuse. These conditions are not, in character, unlike our system of immigration camps today
That can definitely be an issue, but I think it's largely something that can happen in peer groups of teens and young adults as opposed to parents and teachers assuming a child is trans and deciding to "transition" them (which anti-trans activists often claim happens).
you can tell that this isn't a real problem, because if it was this would be written by someone it happened to and not someone who it didn't happen to saying "but if it did that would have sucked."
If the DMV said “you have one year to get a new license; here’s how to do it for free” it would still be shitty and discriminatory. But to have your license invalidated OVERNIGHT is absolutely malicious.
I did enjoy Rogue in the Savage Land (which felt more tongue in cheek to me), but the new Psylocke series really feels like something out of the 90s.
I hadn't quite articulated it, but this article does a good job of breaking down a trend I've seen recently. In addition to bringing back some of these older, sexualized costumes, I feel like there's been a trend of titles that take place at earlier points in continuity, at least for the X books.
Two very plain truths:
1) This almost certainly can’t stand any legal challenge, especially with the precedent set last year WRT passports.
2) The point of this law isn’t to last. It’s to harass, sew confusion, and force undesirables out.
A day later and no major national news org has covered what they're doing in Kansas.
This is the flip side of the hyper focus on trans issues by the right. The national media ignores what's actually being done to trans people.
This erasure is what contributes to the persecution.
Definitely worth your time, especially if you've noticed the weird visual regression in a lot of Marvel's top women heroes.
Olympic highlight in this house.
I wish I could remember exactly how long I've been listening for, but I know you've been my favorite podcast since at least 2018. I'm sad to see it end, but I definitely get it and support your decision. My only regret is that I'll probably never get a chance to see you guys live!
“Go to therapy.” That’s the message Daye Gottsche, a trans woman, has for far-right provocateur Jake Lang after she helped save him in Minneapolis.
I have a Canada goose tattooed on my arm. People sometimes ask me if it has special meaning and no, not really. I just think they're neat and I admire that they don't take shit from anyone and demand respect when crossing the street.
Due to the snow, some clever squirrels have torn into my leaf bags to search for either food or nesting materials. I'm hoping they're not trying to nest *inside* the bags. I'm not mad (hey, they gotta survive), but I've given them seeds and I wish they'd at least take the leaves they pulled out.
My mom told me a story of how, when I was around 2, she told me that I could be whatever I wanted when I grew up and I responded (very seriously) that I was going to be a dog.
Had a very successful evening writing! Was able to add 1,278 words to my manuscript, and I'm feeling good about this new opening.
So much of my bucket list is just animals I want to see or pet (depending on whether they're domesticated/friendly). One of my few regrets is that I had a chance to touch a pet snake when I was a kid and passed it up.
1. Wanted to go to law school, but was worried about the job market. Decided to study paralegal studies instead.
2. Took a break from the paralegal studies program when I got a full-time office job at a university.
3. Stayed in higher ed and got my M.Ed.
A reminder that this anti-trans panic is 100% bullshit and exactly none of our country’s problems are related to someone expressing their gender identity and everyone who isn’t a hate-filled weirdo knows it.

These stores need to calm down. 🤣
