Column | The most important sound at this year's Grammys? Free speech. With trophies in hand, Bad Bunny, Billie Eilish and SZA spoke out against ICE during an awards show where the musical performances felt secondary.

On and off stage, we have a right to speak out against ICE's abuses.

A key to the success of it I think is that non-Maori are learning the language, meaning there are more people to speak Maori with, more people to practice the language with. I would love to see this happening across Canada, with the many languages that have been spoken here for thousands of years.

and to show Indigenous people they want to act in good relations with us. I often think about the language revitalization efforts in Aotearoa (New Zealand), and how there's been an increase of te reo Maori speakers as a result of language classes offered in schools for Maori and non-Maori students.

I think every elementary school and high school in Canada should offer language classes of the local nations whose territories the schools are on. We need non-Indigenous people learning our languages as well. We need a collective effort by Canadians to learn our languages, to help revitalize them,

needs to include an investment in language revitalization. Our languages aren't dying. I don't like to refer to them as dying languages because it removes the fault of the Canadian government and the policies that rid of us our languages and cultures. Our languages were systematically targeted.

Today being National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, I often think about what our communities would look like and what Canada would look like had Canada not enacted assimilation policies including the banning our languages and cultures. I think if Canada is serious about reconciliation, that #NDTR

Right?! You expect me to believe her and her sister looked in the mirror everyday and saw their moms face every day and never questioned they are carbon copies of her and believed they were birthed by an Inuk woman?!? It just doesn’t add up.

‘Pretendian’ or ‘victim’: Inside this would-be Ontario lawyer’s attempt to remake a life built on fraud Jordan Archer knows many will see her as a villain in her own story — but she still has to tell it.

"To practise law in Ontario, applicants for a licence must be of “good character”; Archer feels she has no choice but to abandon a law career, at least at this point." Are we supposed to feel bad? Her and her family committed fraud, taking resources meant for Inuit, First Nations, and Métis students

Amazon’s CEO contributed just 0.4% of his taxable pay to Social Security last year.

Meanwhile, Amazon’s median-paid worker contributed 6.2%.

Amazon's workers paid a 15x higher rate of their taxable income into Social Security than their CEO.

Scrap the cap.

I was at the United Nations in NYC over the last week and was a little shocked to see these for sale in their gift shop. Especially when the featured products from other countries were beautiful and high quality and we have these stereotypical images that were like made in China.

CTV Cancelled a Fact-Checking Segment in Response to Political Pressure From Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives Audio recording shows CTV cancelled an ‘election misinformation’ segment with journalist Rachel Gilmore after online backlash from conservatives

I don’t think this is shocking to anyone. It’s really concerning to see attacks on media, especially from the right who want to spew misinformation and don’t want anyone calling them on it.

You should never be more afraid of what will happen if you speak out and stand up against injustice & oppresson than you are of what happens if you don't.

Don't let fear shut you down, let it wake you up & spark a fire inside you, maybe under your ass if that works as better motivation to fight.

A Letter From Palestinian Activist Mahmoud Khalil | ACLU Khalil, who was unlawfully arrested in retaliation for his advocacy, details this violation of his free speech rights.

If the government is allowed to detain a lawful permanent resident like Mahmoud Khalil for his advocacy in support of Palestinian rights, all of our free speech rights are at risk.

Read Mahmoud's message to the country, in his own words.

Someone else told me totem isn’t an Indigenous specific word and I was like it’s literally an Anishinaabemowin word!

I posted in the CAJ Slack asking them about the fact that they legitimized a right-wing rag that has harassed other journalists.

The CAJ did not reply.

Instead, the CAJ deactivated my access to the Slack channel, despite an ongoing conversation with other members.

I'm really disgusted.
