Appalling to see Trump refer to the UN Human Rights Council as anti-American. While not a perfect institution, it is the only multilateral forum to address Human Rights and our presence makes it stronger. What could be more American than promoting and protecting human rights for all individuals?

Today the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council began without the U.S. present and 🇺🇸 voted with Russia at the UN in NY. I still stand firmly with Ukraine and am proud of all Americans who stood up today for what is right!

3 years ago today Russia waged its further invasion of Ukraine. I arrived in Geneva to the news and co-led a meeting at the U.S. Mission with the Ukraine Ambassador. I then led the U.S. in walking out on Lavrov. For three years we stood resolutely with Ukraine against Putin’s unlawful aggression.

I have nothing but tears today. For the depravity of October 7th, for the horrors Kfir and Ariel must have suffered and the grief of the Bibas family, for the cruelty of returning unidentified remains and the unknown whereabouts of Shiri, and for the countless everywhere affected on and since 7 Oct.

13 years ago today my daughter, Zoë Taylor, won a World Cup race for the United States. Mad respect for the sacrifices athletes and their families make to reach elite athlete status. There is also a flip side. Read her OpEd in the NYT here (she is Zoë Ruhl now): www.nytimes.com/2021/08/06/o...

Walking away from the Human Rights Council leaves a void that will be filled The United States again leaves the only multilateral venue dedicated to addressing human rights abuses, allowing bad actors to set the terms.

We must talk about the consequences of the decisions being made. Thank you to the Contrarian for running my opinion piece!

This Holocaust Remembrance Day, I am reminded that my family legacy of tragedy and survival is what drives me to promote human rights for all.
L-R, Lise 5yo saved by the kindertransport, Herbert 12yo murdered at Riga, Susi 3yo hidden -> escaped at 4yo (my mother). Three cousins. Three fates.

Today the world has lost an indefatigable warrior, fierce and compassionate and deeply committed to the rights of everyone, especially but not only when the rights of women were threatened. Now, more than ever, the world needs that kind of spirit. May her memory serve as a blessing and a call to act

Dr. King reminded us: “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”
That arc only bends when we stand up, speak out, and work together. We honor his legacy by recommitting ourselves to these principles. Today and every day.

On Martin Luther King, I reflect on the privilege of serving as U.S. Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN Human Rights Council during the Biden-Harris Administration. As I step into a new chapter, I remain steadfast in the fight for human dignity, equality, justice, and accountability.
