A high-profile columnist who left The Washington Post amid the paperโ€™s ongoing editorial upheaval is joining a growing anti-Trump digital news startup.

Former Washington Post opinion columnist Catherine Rampell is joining The Bulwark, where she will write a weekly economics and policy-focused newsletter while contributing to the companyโ€™s podcasts and YouTube channels. In a telephone interview on Friday, Rampell said that although she had spent her career at traditional media institutions like The New York Times and the Post, she was encouraged by The Bulwarkโ€™s growth and felt committed to its editorial mission, which emphasizes supporting Americaโ€™s democratic principles and institutions.

โ€œItโ€™s very mission-oriented as an institution, and within that mission, thereโ€™s obviously room for a lot of other views,โ€ Rampell said. โ€œAll of those things were appealing, and itโ€™s a pretty kickass group of people.โ€

โ€œThe Bulwark is a written, video, and audio product. And as we grow, we are looking for people who can excel across all those mediums,โ€ CEO Sarah Longwell said in a statement. โ€œCatherine is not just one of those people โ€” sheโ€™s one of the best of those people. She also brings a unique expertise in economics and a mission aligned worldview. Weโ€™re beyond thrilled sheโ€™s decided to join us.โ€

If you lined up all the people in the country Ezra Klein is probably in the top 15/20% for most progressive, Joe Manchin is in top 45/50%. If you are incapable of listening to these people you have cocooned yourself to a degree that is unhealthy.

I love my listeners and my job.

This is truly a deranged thing to say to someone on a personal level.

This is going to be uncomfortable to hear and Waj/others will likely lash out but I hope some folks recognize that this type of 2019 era identitarianism is what drove some people towards white identity politics and thus Trump.

Charlie Kirk: "Monogamous heterosexual marriage should be a prerequisite to adoption"

Charlie did not think my family should be legal! Heโ€™s also dead. So for me itโ€™s not that useful to argue about gay adoption with the victim of political violenceโ€™s ghost. YMMV on that. But donโ€™t tell me my community was less affected by his politics

in what way did Kirk target your family that was different from how he targeted mine? Please provide specific examples.

We disagree over whether it was helpful to shitpost during a funeral. This is a judgment call itโ€™s unclear the value of making that choice a question of racial identity.

Condemning people based on their group characteristics is gross. When Megyn Kelly says "my people" are responsible for murder or when you say "Never Trump Whites" show their true colors. In a liberal democracy we should attack or praise people based on their actions not their group characteristics

What does being a white person have to do with this? Charlie Kirk's rhetoric targeted my family as much as anyones.

I'm of the view that we shouldn't be accelerating the country into a hot war & think its important that we take President Obama's advice on tone in the wake of political violence.
