This is a super fun paper, my favorite part is that fast swimmers choose to slow down so they can swim with a friend! I was so lucky to join this crew at Friday Harbor Labs, I wouldn't trade it for the world!

So happy to finally get this out there! This was a collaborative, grad student-driven project outside the bounds of our dissertation research, but very much a passion project for each of us. Lots of tangible resources are included - check out Hannah's summary!

It was a wonderful to share work on 'Developing inclusive teaching frameworks for campus and community STEAM education' by myself, @scubamelman.bsky.social @botanyberit.bsky.social + Dr. Chris Biggs, and hear about projects by other grant teams at the @CTL_UT Teaching & Learning Symposium last week!

Had an amazing time sharing preliminary results from my PhD work on Texas blennies at the 52nd Benthic Ecology Meeting this weekend! I couldn't have asked for a better lab group to travel with! #BEM2024

Can mixed assessment methods make biology classes more equitable? Many factors have been proposed to explain the attrition of women in science, technology, engineering and math fields, among them the lower performance of women in introductory courses resulting from ...

We kicked off our first inclusive teaching journal club at the University of Texas Marine Science Institute today! We discussed how mixed assessment methods can improve gender parity in college bio courses (Cotner & Ballen 2017).

Hi, my name is Mel Neill. I'm an aquarist and PhD student studying competition between adorable species of blennies at the University of Texas Marine Science Institute with @gobyone.bsky.social. Here's my most photogenic specimen yet, a crested blenny (Hypleurochilus geminatus)!
