The latest European Grassland Butterfly Indicator is out. It shows that grassland butterflies have declined by 47% since 1991, indicating a huge loss of grassland biodiversity. The data come from 16,150 transects & 15,000 volunteers. We are calling for urgent action. www.bc-europe.eu/documents/69...

Forecasting extinction risk for future-proof conservation decisions: Trends Ecol & Evolution www.cell.com/trends/ecolo...
Should conservation focus on threatened species? Or should we be proactive and protect species before they become threatened? This paper explores how to get the balance right.
Climate warming is generally making trees grow faster, but the greater effect is that tree growth is becoming more unpredictable, creating a threat to the stability of forests. New paper by Li & He (2026). ๐งช๐๐๐ฒ๐ณ

Hot, drier, more fragmented forests are losing species. Many in the Andes + western Amazon are gaining them.
Fig. 1. Conceptual diagram of the relationships among the social-ecological dimensions of urban soundscapes. Urban soundscape characteristics likely are influenced by urban green space vegetation structure, which in turn influences biodiversity. Furthermore, urban soundscapes relate to dimensions of acoustic comfort and human wellbeing (restoration). Key for urban planning is to identify places of high biodiversity, acoustic comfort and restoration with positive effects on human wellbeing that can be equitably promoted in planning and sound-based policies.
