National Survey evaluating provision for play rights in Irish schoolyards. What is this survey about? Providing space for play in schoolyards is not only a childrenโ€™s rights obligationโ€”it is important for children's health, learning and social lives and so creates healthier, more inclusive school environments and aligns with key curriculum and school policy goals.

Breaktimes account for at least 12% of the school day, yet there is a lack of data, guidance, and funding to help schools make the most of this time.ย

While often described by children as the most enjoyable part of their day, research also shows that the schoolyard can be a space of exclusion for some students and a source of stress for teachers.

To effectively advocate for greater resources and support, we first need a clearer picture of the current situationโ€”how diverse schools around Ireland are providing space, time, and opportunities for outdoor play during break times.

Play is vital for health, learning & inclusionโ€”yet we lack data. Help us build the case for support.
