It was a revelation but not hugely for me, despite growing up Catholic with religious education classes every week & being Confirmed, I never fully bought in. My family more -so went through the Catholic motions but we were never very religious/church goers

When I read The Color Purple in high school & the main character had an internal dialogue questioning why any god who is supposed to love us would make some of us suffer & suffer & hate us for what we were. Made me kinda snap like "yeah, wait, that doesn't make sense. What kind of god is that."
