Yeah I'm metrowest and it ain't happening. I ride out to Wachusetts a couple times in the late spring but climbs are hard to come by in central/eastern MA.
Exactly. Last year I went up to northern Vermont for a couple days of gravel riding in June and while the climbs kicked my ass, I did them, mostly because I was able to pace my effort on the early stuff.
Power meters are great. I don't race and I'm a mid cyclist, but power data helps me see my progress, and with an app like Trainingpeaks I can nerd out forever comparing my rides.
My recommendation is to pay for Trainingpeaks and use Strava free. Trainingpeaks has no social aspect, no leaderboards, just excellent data tools and you get access to their virtual app (like Zwift) too. Use Strava to keep track of your rides if you want, but TP does it all really.
