To your point, though, I agree -- it's great to see an attempt to draw a distinction in the press between the various kinds of e-bikes rather than just post a blanket call for them all to be banned or legislated into non-existence.

I guess the family was super into dirt bikes, and I realize a lot of kids learn to ride before they're old enough legally, but my stepson is 13 and I can't imagine letting him ride something like that on the road.

The boy who was killed in Stoneham wasn't riding a Class 2 or 3 bike. He was riding a dirt bike, and he was 13.

Even this new legislation doesn't seem to address the e-dirt bikes. In SF, I was caught up in one of those flash mobs of like 200 teen boys on these bikes that can go 50-60 mph. Those instances aside, I also see them in bike lanes and on paths. To me they're much more dangerous than Class 3.

I'm surprised they talk about it. All my neighbors are so New England tight-lipped and tight-assed I haven't said more than a few words to them in four years. Also I live in an apartment -- albeit a giant-assed nice one -- so they all look down on me.
