Secondlife Safety Tips
Protect your account, protect your Lindens

Set up 2FA
Using 2-factor authentication can help prevent your account being lost to phishing attempts and brute-force hackers (and exes who might still have your password saved).

Watch out for phishing links
NEVER sign in to the SL website through a link another resident has sent you unless you are CERTAIN it is actually the real Second Life website. Check for typos, misplaced periods, dashes, and unexpected domains. When in doubt, open a new tab and navigate to secondlife.com or marketplace.secondlife.com yourself to sign in, or just close the page. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is!

"Loans" = Gifts
If you want to give someone money, do so under the assumption that they will never pay you back, and you will likely never hear from them again, no matter what they tell you when they’re begging in the group chat.

Take caution with debit permissions.
Giving debit permissions to an object allows it to continuously take L$ from your account without further consent being given. There are only a small handful of legitimate reasons to accept debit permissions from an object. If you don’t understand why an object is asking for this permission, DECLINE.

Help Protect your fellow residents.
If you see a phony link in a group chat, call it out!
Hide your free groups! Scam bot networks spread on SL by checking the profiles of the first few users to reply after them and joining any free groups they can see to continue spreading their scams. Replying to these scams with your groups hidden can help prevent someone else from becoming a link in the network.

Newbies are not your enemy, and are not necessarily scammers or trolls!
You cannot be scammed simply by talking to a fresh account. Let’s help everyone have an enjoyable experience on Second Life by giving them a fair shot without making assumptions.

"What about scammers using new accounts!?"
They can't take your money or account just by IMing you. You need to hand it over. Use the skills many of us have been sharing for ages now to avoid getting scammed.

Feel free to share this, display it inworld, etc. Help your fellow residents!

And assuming they're CAPABLE of learning how. People with focus and learning issues deserve to enjoy their experience on SL just the same as the rest of us, regardless of whether or not they are able to put together a fancy, detailed avatar.

The new user kit can certainly help cut this down nowadays...if someone somehow finds it in them to put the effort in to learning how, on a platform that so often shuns them for the crime of being new.

Feels like a good time to reshare this w/ dialogue about the new user experience opening back up. When you shy away from a newbie for not meeting this "modern standard", you're genuinely engaging in classism and hurting the platform, whether you mean to or not. You were once a noob.

EVERY SINGLE PART of a lily is toxic!

Petals, leaves, pollen, the water in the vase.

You can celebrate someone other ways besides killing their cat.

I worked as a vet tech for 10 years. Let me assure you, you don't want to see your cat go through this nightmare.

"Doing your best" (with chronic illness)
My doctor (bless him) straight up went "don't" when I said "I'll do my best"

Because what I think "my best" is, is completely draining myself for this One Thing and going above and beyond

I guess this goes for people w/o chronic illness as well, but "your best" shouldn't mean you end up hurting yourself in the long run. "Your best" is as much as you are willing to devote to something proportional to how much you care about it within the confines of what is healthy for you AND considering all the other stuff you have to do

Please just- holy heck we're already struggling so much please don't devote your precious energy to something that doesn't deserve it

don't do your best, do whats best for you

took me like two minutes total. don’t have to talk to anybody, don’t have to make a phone call, just have to write what you can about how payment processors shouldn’t control what consumers can buy and hit send. that’s it

all hands on deck yall, this could make a huge difference

Federal Reserve Board - Proposal Details The Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington DC.

The government is asking for public comments on whether banks should be able to deny you from buying legal goods at their own whim (i.e. how they're cracking down on art)

Tell them you don't want to be told how to spend your money

Reminder that the only time Mastercard has flinched is when outrage was directed at them. Attacking platforms like SubscribeStar for Visa/Mastercard's extralegal censorship is exactly the deflection they want.

graphic design shitpost: Stick figure of human leg with the knee labeled "monetizable knee"; stick figure of digitigrade leg, with the knee labeled "uncouth zoophile knee"; text: Ankle unrelated, "we are very smart" - payment processors.

Separate graphic on other half - illustration of a doggy, text:
Woof woof! I am a representational, animal-shaped character! A hot one, some might say. People are often attracted to me, which make sense - I am depicted with human-like behaviors, and am often drawn as a
representation of idealized or exaggerated human experiences.
I'm not just a talking dog - I can be a representation of the artist's aspiration to be more playful, more confident - or of something they already love about themselves.
Animal-shaped characters have been a part of human expression as long as we have made art - and that tradition will outlive the powers which seek to control and divide us today. Er, grr bark, I mean.

Re: SubscribeStar banning sexual content with characters that don't have "human-like knee orientation" fsjdkldbh

Tried to shitpost and got carried away lol

Panel 7
An older version of the ADHD Alien gently reassures a younger version of herself. The older character says:
“You’re not overreacting.”
“It makes sense that you’re trying to prevent rejection.”
Additional text reads:
“Feeling anxious is not proof of rejection, it might just be a relic of the past.” Panel 8
The ADHD Alien character sits at a restaurant table among other people, looking tense and suspicious while glancing toward a woman nearby. Caption reads: “But I’m still convinced that woman staring at me last year absolutely hated my guts.” Smaller text below adds: “(She was most likely just zoned out…)”

Panel 5
A circular diagram shows a repeating cycle. Caption reads:
“There would be this endless cycle of being scolded out of nowhere,”
then “not being able to regulate emotions well because of ADHD,”
and finally “being scolded for ‘overreacting.’”
The illustrations show the child being criticized, crying, and then being criticized again. Panel 6
A baby version of the ADHD Alien lies on the floor while adult figures loom nearby. Caption reads:
“As a child, being rejected and abandoned is life threatening.”
Another caption continues:
“So it makes sense that as an adult, this fear is still hardwired into me.”
Text at the bottom reads:
“I never knew when I would get rejected, so I never fully felt safe.”

Panel 3
A diagram illustrates how reactions feel different to someone with rejection sensitivity. Caption reads: “I’ve learnt that only enthusiastic responses are safe responses.”
At the top, a smiling person giving an excited response is labeled “Enthusiastic safe reaction ✓.”
Below, a neutral expression is labeled “Neutral ✗ Danger! Rejection possible!” Panel 4
Childhood scenes show the ADHD Alien as a child being scolded by adults. Caption reads: “Because if I didn’t excel as a child, I would always get scolded for something.”
One adult asks: “Why did you leave your wet coat on?!”
The child replies: “I didn’t even notice…”
Another adult asks: “Did you come home without shoes?!”
The child answers: “Oh? I don’t know.”

Rejection sensitivity part 2/4

Panel 1
Comic titled “Rejection Sensitivity Explained.”
The ADHD Alien character stands beside another person who responds casually with the words “Oh, thanks.” The reaction is neutral and calm. The ADHD Alien character looks worried and overthinks the interaction. Caption text reads: “When people react neutrally to me, I think they secretly hate me.” Panel 2
The ADHD Alien character sits curled up on the floor in a dim room, looking anxious and overwhelmed. The caption reads: “It’s like my logic turns off and an emergency mode turns on.”
Thought bubbles show spiraling worries: “I must’ve done something wrong.” “I need to figure out what I did wrong.” “Did I overstep?”

Spent all vacation worrying that the people I’d meet wouldn’t like me. They liked me 😭. Could’ve enjoyed my croissant in peace

Also don't even try to debate me on any aspect of this.

I literally could not care less if you have any kind of a "Yes but-" argument.

Censorship is a continuous erosion that will absolutely fucking steamroll your cute little morality picket and leak right into your every day life.

People don't understand; it's about the rolling crack down on freedoms, not simply the art - look more than 2 ft in front of you PLEASE.

Not sure what to do with my life at the moment. Thinking of quitting DJing but then what? And it seems like an avenue I should leave open. Plus it feels like I'd be letting all the people who have hurt me, this year, last and the year before win? Idk, I'm about ready to give up everything lately.

The Substar TOS looks extremely similar to Patreon's now. Call your reps or we will lose everything

Tell them to stop the payment processor power grab, tell them to vote no on child online safety bills/ID verification. We need everyone

With what's going on with Subscribestar, it's a good moment to remind you all of something:

Free speech also includes speech you don't agree with, and freedom of artistic expression also includes art you find horrible or disgusting.

And if you go: "Yeah I agree! However-"

Then you don't agree!
