Art Rooney II said he didn't care if he won the press conference, and reaction to his hire made that seem impossible.

Then Mike McCarthy, won it anyway.

Beating the odds is going to have to be a thing if he succeeds here. May as well start on day one.

Bryan Rust against the Sharks. It definitely stood out as a softer-than-usual call.

The overall play is he followed the puck to the front of the net and made very minor contact with the head of the goaltender, a play that is basically never called a penalty.

There’s almost no chance that tap, and not the shot that broke his mask earlier in the game, was the main cause of his concussion. That level of contact with a goalie happens almost every game. When I saw the outrage I couldn’t believe that was the play everyone was talking about.

I am all for a Matt Cooke-style, OK throw the book at him this time when someone with that reputation does something heinous, but I don’t even think that should’ve been a penalty, let alone a suspension. He barely touched him.
