Frustration mounts as Japan questions details of Trump’s trade ‘deal’ The prime minister defended the vague deal by saying dealings with Trump were “not normal,” while another senior Japanese politician described increasing arrogance.

For Japan, the most difficult phase of negotiating with the U.S. is only just beginning, one Japanese analyst said, likening the current moment to a popular gathering spot on the hike up Mount Fuji before the daunting ascent to the summit.

Frustration mounts as Japan questions details of Trump’s trade ‘deal’ The prime minister defended the vague deal by saying dealings with Trump were “not normal,” while another senior Japanese politician described increasing arrogance.

“Compared to that time [Trump’s first term], I feel Trump has become more arrogant. Even just looking at the Trump tariffs, he now imposes U.S. policies more unilaterally,” Itsunori Onodera, policy chief for Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party, said in an interview.

Frustration is mounting in Japan after it became clear this week that Tokyo and Washington have different interpretations of a key component of their new trade deal, with lawmakers pushing for clarity and Japan’s negotiator flying halfway around the world to resolve the discrepancy.

After the bombing, skin melted off people’s bodies like zombies. Black rain fell, carrying radioactive ash and causing radiation burns, leaving permanent deformities in those who survived it.

In both cities, survivors of the bombing — called hibakusha — have dedicated their lives to making sure the world doesn’t forget the horrors of nuclear war. Like Yasuko Kondo, 84, who was 4 when the bomb fell. She was just 3.5 km from the hypocenter in Hiroshima. www.hiroshimapeacemedia.jp?p=139875

Eighty years ago today, the U.S. dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Three days later, the U.S. destroyed Nagasaki with a second bomb. It was the first & only time a nuclear weapon was used in warfare, vaporizing the cities and instantaneously killing tens of thousands, mostly civilians, in each.

I can't count the number of layoffs, furloughs, buyouts I've seen in the pat 15 years. You'd think I'd have developed some immunity but I find they get tougher to witness, because no one seems to have answers on how the industry can not just survive but thrive in this rapidly changing info lanscape.

But watching dozens of colleagues take buyouts thru yet another newsroom restructure never gets easier. Even when I know many of them are moving on to passion projects, exciting new jobs and well-earned retirement, it's always tough to see hundreds (thousands?) of years of experience leave at once.
