We do. Carney has used the word "transformative" before with Trump. We understand the unspoken part (that he's made it much worse). Most Canadians understand subtlety.

When my husband & I returned from Italy in May, we hit the 401 at rush hour on the friday of the Victoria Day long weekend. We noticed all the huge SUVs and the size of our roads. In Italy, the garbage trucks are the size of a car. Everything is on a much more human scale there.

The ceremony on Parliament Hill in Ottawa for #TruthandReconcilation and #OrangeShirtDay was very moving & profound. They walked the over 60 metre memorial cloth for all the children who didn't home home (over 4,000 names so far) through the crowd while Deedee Austin performed "Buried Truth".

I am an Indian day school survivor. I am the son of a residential school survivor, the nephew and grandchild of residential school survivors. Truth before reconciliation is the upmost importance. It is the duty of all white Canadians to understand that truth, read the final report and pressure your govt to implement the calls to action. But above all, white Canadians needs to be on the front lines of racism and the lies of deniers to protect Indigenous folks on Truth and Reconciliation Day

I agree. I don’t mind it in hockey but I dislike hearing any Canadian politician say things like that otherwise because it isn’t true & is simplistic. You need to acknowledge your country’s flaws as the first step to begin to address them.

IHMO Canada has too long ignored its Arctic & needs to continue to grow closer to Nordic countries.

2/2 I also think that this exceptionalism is responsible for US ignorance about the rest of the world. After all, if you are the “greatest country”, then there is no reason to learn or even pay attention to other countries & cultures. USians have long lived in an isolated bubble.

I’ve heard it called US exceptionalism & it’s pervasive in almost all USians, no matter where on the political spectrum. I believe this belief fed into “it can’t happen here” (no country incl mine is immune to what’s happening, it’s a rising tide of authoritarianism worldwide.) 1/2

They were using in the 60s & 70s because of the Vietnam War. US has never been as popular as they think they were.

Charlie thanks for the reminder us of an important Canadian & the foundation of Canada. I remember reading about him in 1 of many Cdn history books my mom gave us. She was originally an USian who married my Cdn dad & came here during McCarthyism. She wanted us to be proud of Canada & its history.

As a nice as an apology would be, it's far too little & too late in this Canadian's opinion. Rather than coming to #Canada to promote tourism (& wasting their $), they need to take their lost Canadian & internationalism tourism issues to the cause: the White House. Unfortunately they're too afraid.
