The lecture by Lisa Baiton CEO of CAPP was on the future of renewable energy and conventional oil and gas in Canada and the Maritimes. Thank you to our hosts and for recognizing our students, and programs, for helping to develop the future skilled technical leaders in these sectors.

The Dalhousie students of the Petroleum Geoscience and Energy Systems course were guests of CAPP and the Nova Scotia Department of Energy (Minister Boudreau) today at the Halifax Chamber of Commerce.

After the Geothermal facilities visit, the students visited the Miner’s Museum and went underground to experience what the coal miners life was like, extracting coal, kilometers underground.

ERTH 4153 were hosted by the Minister of Natural Resources and renewables Tory Rushton the Mayor of Cumberland County, Rod Gilroy and Councillor Scott Lockhart. Former Earth Sciences PhD grad, Dr. Trevor Kelly (orange jacket), facilitated the visit.

From July 10 to Aug 8, EES members Wilder Greenman (postdoctoral fellow), Lauren O’Reilly (PhD student) and Tessa Giacoppo (MSc student) are participating on an expedition of the CCGS Amundsen to survey and sample deep water coral and sponge habitats of the Labrador margin.

Their research is supported by their institutions and by a Nova Scotia Museum Research Grant!

Dr.s Atkins and Arnott are working on a new project that will help us better understand the nodules at the Joggins Fossil Cliffs! Nodules are common in Carboniferous rocks, and they often contain very detailed and well-preserved fossils!
