Image shows homemade vegan ricotta. Image shows homemade vegan pizzas with vegan ricotta.

Our friend B made her own vegan ricotta (using Miyoko Schinner’s recipe) and put it on homemade pizzas! (She used the leftover pulp to make crackers.)

Making more of our own food is just one way to be more collapse resilient.

See the recipe: vegnews.com/recipes/wate...

Image shows an old-growth tree, with a line drawing of a tree branch on top. The text is a quote by Nafeez Ahmed: Collapse is not a singular event but a systemic transition where interlinked ecological, energy, economic, and political crises converge, leading to the unraveling of existing structures.

Collapse isn’t a sudden event. It’s the breakdown of systems built on warmongering, capitalism, white supremacy & extraction. The ecological destruction, violence, political chaos & economic hardships are all connected. Resilience = rejecting those systems + creating new ones based on mutual care.

Image shows storage bins inside a larger storage bin. Text says: Collapse Resilience Quick Tip: Stock Up on Storage Bins.

When crises arise, chaos & disorganization aren’t your friends. Periodically, we hit the thrift stores & Buy Nothing lists looking for storage bins. We don’t always know the exact use, but as we continue to organize our home for short- and long-term #CollapseResilience, we always find them useful.

Background image shows cows in a feedlot. Foreground image is a Vox pie chart showing what percentage (47%) of Colorado River water is used for growing feed for cows, as well as how the other uses are divided. Text says: About half of Colorado River water goes to growing feed for cows.

Building #CollapseResilience means rethinking a lot of our systems & practices--including our addiction to animal agriculture. Read how centering animal products affects water availability for millions (& our wild kin): link.vox.com/view/66b40a6...
Then take steps to eat more plant-based meals.

Image shows old-growth trees and a graphic of a tree branch. Text is a quote by Max Wilbert: “It’s legal to clearcut forests, overpump groundwater, manufacture plastic, and burn oil. It is legal to release cancer-causing pollution and to bulldoze wild places....The rights of nature, meanwhile, are completely disregarded.”

There is no #CollapseResilience for humans without liberation for animals and the planet. We can't single-handedly control governments or corporations, but our choices and collective actions matter. Start today: do more good, less harm—for all beings. ✋🐾🌍💚

Image shows toothpaste being put onto a toothbrush. Text says: Collapse Resilience Challenge: Practice Using Less.

With most things we use—from toothpaste to brush our teeth, to ketchup on our potatoes—we use more than we need. Using a little less of everything you can not only saves money, but it helps you prepare for stretching out what you have in times of emergency/crisis. How have you practiced using less?

Image show a shelf of veggie starts sprouting under grow lights.

In many areas, now’s a great time to start seeds inside to prep for spring planting. Our friend E. has been starting loads of veggies, herbs, and flowers with her indoor growing system.

Are you starting seeds this year? What have you planted so far?🌱

UN declares Earth has entered a period of "water bankruptcy" that is likely impossible to reverse Rivers are shrinking and aquifers are falling, raising fears of “water bankruptcy” as billions experience increasing water shortages.

Water shortages are escalating worldwide, which means taking steps to reduce water use (going plant-based is a great step), and finding ways to safely store water for drinking and for watering your food garden.

How have you been using less water? What water storage solutions are you exploring?

Image shows old-growth trees and a graphic of a tree branch. Text is a quote from Nate Bear: “To function, capitalism requires us all to be expertly practiced in the art of cognitive dissonance.”

Capitalism is killing many of us; yet the system compels us to contribute to our own exploitation & destruction. Building community, mutual aid & alternative systems/practices are key to dismantling these destructive systems & creating a world founded on interspecies compassion & justice.

Image shows a hand holding a key chain with a bright orange whistle on it. Text says: Collapse Resilience Quick Tip: Carry a Whistle.

Whistles are gaining popularity as a rapid response tool. They’re also useful for bringing help if you or someone else is under threat; to guide rescuers to your location; or to call attention for other emergencies. I carry mine on my key chain. Get one today and gift them to your loved ones!✋🐾🌍💚

Image shows the books Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents by Octavia Butler

Octavia Butler’s must-read duology is as compelling as it is prescient. I was gut-punched reading it again recently & noting how many parallels there are w/ today (the book begins in 2024, when the US is unstable due to the climate crisis, wealth inequality, authoritarianism & corporate greed).

Image shows old-growth trees and a graphic of a tree branch. Text is a quote from Andre Sevenius Nilsen: “If collapse is a drastic and persistent reduction in societal complexity, then reducing the complexity of your everyday life will make any sudden changes (like the current price increases in natural gas, electricity, gasoline, food, etc.) more manageable.”

Eating plant-based, walking more, and using buy nothing groups are just a few ways we’ve reduced complexity in our everyday lives.

What ways are you building more resilience and mutual aid in your own life? ✋ 🐾 🌍 💚

Image shows two people talking on a bench. Text says: Collapse Resilience Challenge: Talk to a Friend About Collapse.

Most of us have seen loved ones shut down when we mention collapse. But prepping, mutual aid & lifestyle shifts are becoming normal—and there are gentle ways to invite people in: ask how they’re feeling, share what’s helped you, start small (tools, skills, gardens), & tell hopeful community stories.

Image shows dry, cracked soil. Text says: More than 90% of Earth’s land could be degraded by 2050 due to unsustainable agricultural practices.

Scientists warn that we’re losing fertile soil so quickly due largely to unsustainable agricultural practices that more than 90% of Earth’s land surface could be degraded by 2050, exacerbating the growing food crisis and putting more human and animal lives at risk. 🧵

Image shows old-growth trees and a graphic of a tree branch. Text is a quote from Christopher Nyerges: “How long should we cling to the faulty logic of ‘I’m just doing what everyone else is doing’ as the excuse to not change our behavior?”

Harmful practices—from supporting white supremacy to eating animals to overconsuming—persist because most people do them. We’re social animals; we like to belong. But systems are upheld by individual choices. We can follow the crowd or start aligning our choices w/ the world we say we want. ✋ 🐾 🌍 💚

Image shows a white EV car getting charged. Text says: Collapse Resilience Quick Tip: Keep Your Car Fueled/Charged.

🔥Emergencies can happen at any time: fires, extreme weather, organized violence. If you need to evacuate/escape quickly, you won’t have time to stop & fill your gas tank/charge your car. Keep your car fueled/charged at no lower than ¾ full & know the fueling/charging stations near you.

Image shows old-growth trees and a graphic of a branch. Text is a quote by YK Hong: “If we want liberation in our lifetimes, we must remember that our actions, protests, boycotts, and calls are part of a longer and larger momentum of movement that requires that we extend our circles to gather people in. It is only when we coalesce and build up that we create the crest that cracks and crumbles Empire.”

What examples of gathering people in and working toward liberation have you seen in your community?✋🐾🌍💚

Digital maps are great—until we don’t have access to them. Collect paper maps of your & surrounding regions (& get a road atlas of your country) in case you need to evacuate or escape to a safer area & grids/Wi-Fi are down.

Most US states will mail you a free road map.✋🐾🌍💚

'Doomsday Clock' 2026: This is how close we are to self-annihilation, scientists say The "Doomsday Clock" has moved even closer to midnight, indicating that humankind is closer to self-annihilation than ever before.

Humanity continues to make stupid, selfish, and dangerous choices. It's important that we work together to build interspecies communities founded on compassion, justice, cooperation, liberation, and resilience. We can start with our families and our neighborhoods.✋🐾🌍💚

Image shows old-growth trees and a graphic of a tree branch. Text is a quote by Scot Nakagawa: “Refusing to cooperate with systems that harm people requires simultaneously building alternative systems that care for people.”

Refusing to cooperate w/ systems that exploit people, animals & the planet only works if we simultaneously create alternatives that meet our individual & collective interspecies needs: mutual aid, community care, shared food, habitat protection, etc.
Resistance & reinvention go hand-in-hand. ✋🐾🌍💚
