this comes up a lot in fear & hunger, since those games introduce diagonal movement and tilesets but can't get around the fact that rpgmaker's *collision* is strictly orthogonal. you learn not to get too close to diagonal walls if you're in a hurry

it's not impossible to fake it visually but you'd run into a lot of awkwardness when actually moving (since the underlying grid would remain unchanged)

this evening i'm mad that rpgmaker won't let me set up a tilegrid like the one in stories of ihatovo

QS bullets also probably. idk that system is in a really weird place if you were to try and actually balance around it. 1 bullet can be exchanged for either [tiny chip off some guy's healthbar] or [target's heart explodes in your fist]. and that's before you get into hunter tool uses

just *something* that makes it so that running out of vials against a boss doesn't mean putting in time in the "those two henchmen in central yharnam" mines, even if the automatic refill is just like, five vials or w/e

this vial threshold would be upgradable over the course of a playthrough in a similar manner to flask upgrades, but since the underlying vial system would remain unchanged, you wouldn't have to rework item placements in levels, enemy drop tables, etc

i think my fix for the blood vial system in bb would be like, your character has a minimum number of blood vials that they refill to when using a lamp, and anything you pick up as treasure or enemy drops sits on top of that baseline
