Not even a full five years, that’s how swift and intense this backlash has been. They want us to know what our place is.

A legal document titled "MEMORANDUM OPINION" from the United States District Court for the District of Maryland in the case PFLAG, Inc., et al. v. Donald J. Trump et al. (Civil No. 25-337-BAH). The document discusses the court's ruling on the Plaintiffs' motion for a preliminary injunction (ECF 69), outlining the legal standard required for such relief, including likelihood of success on the merits, irreparable harm, balance of equities, and public interest. It references the prior granting of a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) on February 13, 2025, which enjoined the enforcement of specific Executive Orders prohibiting federal funding for gender-affirming medical care for transgender patients under 19. The document cites relevant case law and procedural background. The page header indicates it is Document 115, filed on March 4, 2025, and is page 1 of 66.

Huge news, a preliminary injunction was just granted in the PFLAG v Trump case enjoining the administration from enforcing the executive order ban on gender affirming care for trans youth.

I will never stop being mad about how the media has treated the anti-trans movement as a group of ordinary people with legitimate concerns rather than the obvious frothing bigots they are.

These executive orders on banning federally funded entities from recognizing trans people or disallowing them from using the bathroom are not self-executing or immediately enforceable. They require formal rule making at a minimum. They are a scare tactic. Ignore and do not comply in advance.

Screenshot of a paper in the International Journal of Press/Politics. Title: When Do Parties Lie? Misinformation and Radical-Right Populism Across 26 Countries. Authors: Petter TΓΆrnberg and Juliana Chueri. Abstract: The spread of misinformation has emerged as a global concern. Academic attention has recently shifted to emphasize the role of political elites as drivers of misinformation. Yet, little is known of the relationship between party politics and the spread of misinformationβ€”in part due to a dearth of cross-national empirical data needed for comparative study. This article examines which parties are more likely to spread misinformation, by drawing on a comprehensive database of 32M tweets from parliamentarians in 26 countries, spanning 6years and several election periods. The dataset is combined with external databases such as Parlgov and V-Dem, linking the spread of misinformation to detailed information about political parties and cabinets, thus enabling a comparative politics approach to misinformation. Using multilevel analysis with random country intercepts, we find that radical-right populism is the strongest determinant for the propensity to spread misinformation. Populism, left- wing populism, and right-wing politics are not linked to the spread of misinformation. These results suggest that political misinformation should be understood as part and parcel of the current wave of radical right populism, and its opposition to liberal democratic institution.

This multi-year, multi-country analysis shows that right-wing populist politicians spread more online misinfo than their mainstream counterparts and explains how β€œthe rise of political misinformation is associated to the recent wave of radical-right populism.”

I studied the last 10 years of abortion depictions, analyzing the 23 (yes, only 23!) characters portrayed parenting while obtaining an abortion. I found that these narratives are meaningfully different than storylines that focus on childfree characters.

I've been researching the idea of Unconditional Universal Basic Income since 2013. Here's a collection of findings I've compiled from various UBI experiments and studies of cash transfer programs around the world.

This will be a VERY LONG and ongoing thread focused entirely on empirical evidence. 🧡

Goodnight Jimmy Carter. You were a model of what an ideal president should look like, & a selfless, giving, & compassionate person. You were also among the 1st people to mind whenever I thought of what it ought to mean to be a non-proselytizing Christian. I truly hope more of us match your kindness.

Carter Names Record Number of Minorities to Federal Bench

Please remember that President Carter appointed more minorities and women to the bench than all previous presidents combined. He was the first President to embrace the concept of bringing racial diversity to the federal bench. A key aspect of his legacy.

Academia runs on volunteerism that presumes everyone has a full time stable job and ideally a spouse that either is non-working and does all the care work OR is in a highly lucrative field of employment.

It ain’t that way any more.
For many, maybe most, it never really was.
