An artistic representation of the "Old World Language Families" resembling a tree, illustrating the Indo-European language family. The branches depict various language groups such as Germanic, Romance, Balto-Slavic, Indo-Iranian, Celtic, and Hellenic, among others. Each branch lists individual languages; for example, under the Germanic branch, there are English, German, Dutch, and others. The size of the branches represents the number of native speakers recorded before the year 0. The design mimics the style of an old map, with the tree rooted in the term "Indo-European."

The language tree is a celebration that highlights how all languages are important and connected. Not shared enough.

Used to use this with my noisy classes; walk into the room, put my things on the desk. Stand and look at them in turn whilst holding my hand up. They would, in turn, look at me. Nudge each other and put their up till the decreasing volume in the class alerted the noisy few to also follow suit.

Maybe more selective feeds or algorithms needed, presently cross purpose content in feeds and lack of engagement as a result.

"Tantalize" is named after Tantalus, a Greek mythological figure who was eternally punished with unreachable food & drink. So close, yet so far.

How to read and why I love reading and I love advice about how to read.

I wrote this about how to read and why.

Books remain the best technology ever invented to understand life and the world. There is no alternative.

Every book you read helps you build a richer picture of the entire world.

'Gaslighting' comes from the title of a 1938 play and the movies based on that play.

The plots of which involve a man attempting to make his wife believe that she is going insane.

We should be welcoming foreign students they help to plug the funding gap, which the government seems less inclined to fill. With many universities facing closure, it's time to have an honest conversation and not just jump on the reform bandwagon to appease the few.

The word ‘tomato’ started out as ‘tomate’ and came from the Nahuatl word ‘tomatl.’

Since the potato had been introduced to the English some decades earlier, the word evolved to mimic the form of ‘potato’—hence the spelling ‘tomato.’
