Well, I think Abdulhawa should face public condemnation and Ben Gvir should face a noose. But they are the same stupid ethical approach.
By that standard the Holocaust is not a genocide lmao
Eh I think a Quebecois or Maritime leader could do quite well, the rural West has very few seats.
(I think the Jim Crow comparison is more fruitful for an American audience generally because it's more legible—most Americans understand something about Jim Crow—and because it neatly addresses the stupid "but there are Arabs in parliament" talking point.)
"It's not precisely apartheid, because it is more reminiscent of the United States under Jim Crow" is a basically defensible analysis imo but like, no one who has that analysis opposes calling it an apartheid state.
Which say what you will about that absurd position, it's at least honest in a weird way
It's fundamentally just the same thing as Jeremy Ben Ami going "it's genocide but I refuse to call it that because I can't, it'll make me feel bad"
God I wish Charlie had run.
All of the disadvantages of Nikki Ashton and Tanille Johnson and none of their advantages
Mamdani did nothing wrong. The person he is criticizing is a fascist, and he is a socialist. He is being entirely consistent in rejecting her fascist and racist nationalism. He didn’t sell out or even equivocate. There’s nothing cowardly or “moderate” going on here
I think if you had one of these out front of your home, you should be stripped of your right to vote, specifically
I think the industrial unions will hate his policy views and all the unions will perceive him as a loser, and he's not going to take that well.
I think a lot of people (myself included) have buyer's remorse about not picking him over Singh.
If I could pick any plausible candidate, I think Charlie Angus (recently retired NDP MP from northern Ontario) or Valerie Plante (social democratic former mayor of Montreal) would have been ideal.
Tanille Johnson is too green but seems super cool, Rob Ashton feels potentially high-reward but very unpolished and his union has historic ties to organized crime, and Lewis feels like a guy who'll smash the NDP's last ties to organized labor.
Of the people who ran? I probably would have bitten the bullet and voted for Heather McPherson, I think she did a damn good job with the foreign policy critic file even if she's to my right on climate stuff (she's Albertan after all)
If Avi Lewis wins, I think the NDP as a party is dead.
Here is a clip of @avilewis.ca and @naomiaklein.bsky.social being gleeful that the Alberta NDP only had one term in govt.
Sure, I get it. They think my record as Environment Minister is something to be ashamed of. Coal phase-out, renewables, indigenous equity, energy efficiency etc…
Admittedly it would be nice if there was just as much interrogation of how endemic anti-Palestinian and anti-Muslim sentiment is on the center-left.
This is the same defense as people use for Itamar Ben Gvir.
It's incredibly obvious that it is, both from communal institutions and the majority of Jews who identify as Zionist in most polls.
I mean it's a joint air campaign.
Still noodling on this as a bronzepunk historical science-fantasy setting.
I love how the Tanakh is full of weird shit like this. The War of the Nine Kings, where two of the losing cities are inhabited by Rephaites (possibly Goliath-esque giants), there's a big battle in the Dead Sea valley where there are large population centers, and Abraham is inexplicably involved...
I don't think he has the juice.
You guys massacred a school full of children.
Undercover Israeli soldiers in the occupied West Bank shot and killed a Palestinian couple in their car and two of their children, aged five and seven.
Khaled, the oldest child who survived, recounted that the soldier declared "we killed dogs", then took him out of the car, and beat him.
He's absolutely a 2032 third-party challenger against President Pritzker, who is just too cosmopolitan and controlled by bankers for a member of the true volk.
Guy Who Listens to "Come Out Ye Black and Tans" and Identifies with the Black and Tans.
He contrasts the tattoo favorably to a swastika and then refers to it as a skull and crossbones.
