Failed teacher here. For what it’s worth, I would add more open, non-prescriptive, play-based activity, and a reduced obsession with learning objectives. It was teaching Year 2 with NO space for pure play on the timetable that did my head in.

In over 30 years of teaching I have never been trained that/ or told ‘kids don’t need knowledge’
Teachers have always taught ‘knowledge’
And many also taught critical thinking skills, taught contextual relevance, supported motivation, & developmental skills & dispositions

Thanks Barabara, I'll take a read.

Can you quote me where I've said kids don't need knowledge?

Definitely exacerbated by Gove Gibb et al. Somehow thinking a knowledge-rich curriculum will help the most disadvantaged kids (whilst simultaneously creating policies that put more children in poverty).

Do you look down on your colleagues who are part time teachers? Do you only value the opinions of full time staff? And please show me where I said we should have children leave school with no qualifications?

Knowledge-rich, wisdom-poor.

I remember you once saying on Twitter that you thought Adolf Hitler had a growth mindset. You were obviously being facetious and a bit of a wazzock and ever since then I had you muted because it's a waste of time arguing/debating with you.

Hi James, I didn't ignore it. I didn't see it as I have you muted on Twitter.

Whatever you do guys, don't question knowledge-rich curricular.

The best that's thought and said has been decided so just teach it, learn it and shut up 🥱

It really is and why this thread has resonated with so many people on here, X and Insta.

Gibb, Gove, Michaela - have all pedalled this myth for a long time and it's BS and many people see through it.

Yes, teach children philosophy and make them miserable. That's what Aristotle meant by the 'Good life' wasn't it?
