As the gushing tributes pour in, rememver that the Catholic Church still owes its Irish victims millions for the sexual, physical and psychological abuse and torture they suffered at the hands of its clergy, and neither Francis nor any other pope has ever done anything to help them.

He posted a second video showing no reflection & standing over the inaccurate comments.

He started losing followers & then deleted his accounts.

This isn't on people "piling on". He got reasonable responses, publicly, that hopefully should have led to reflection but it didn't seem to.

I don't think it's fair to say he was piled on without having seen it.

The video had racist undertones with inaccurate far right talking points.

People challenged what he said, with measured replies.

He downplayed their points in his replies. They got piled on/abused by the far right followers

Dee has also done a session each year in September for new staff on science of reading and UFLI.

For me it was online/YouTube but We've gone the sustained support route for staff. Too important.

Whole staff science of reading training with @playfulclassroom.bsky.social followed by UFLI EC recording then a few months later Dee coming to model lessons & work with us on UFLI whole school plan.

Year 3 for us too. Year 2 whole school. Game changer.

It takes time but when they see the impact on their classes they do come around!

One of the things I'm most proud of in my career is opening a Nurture room in Ennis after training with Susan Gibney and presenting to the @educatetogether.bsky.social Principals conference on it, leading to an ET Nurture project.

Nurture changes lives.

So important children are supported at whole class level to begin with. Also really important that any Tier 2 or 3 intervention mirrors classroom instruction and happens in addition to rather than in place of classroom instruction

I think this is important to reflect on. Sometimes we concentrate too much on intervention when we really need to look at whole class instruction. Would love to hear others thoughts!

I have adjusted the Continuum of Support graphic to reflect the research into Mutli-Tiered Support Systems (MTSS). A very well known quote in this field is “You can’t intervene your way out of a Tier 1 problem.”

Oh I absolutely love this, an excellent exercise to undertake and credit to your staff for investing so much of themselves in it too. Reaps dividends. It is heartbreaking when I ask children who they can turn to for help in the school and they shrug or say ‘nobody gets me’. #EdChatIE

The students are obviously on a spectrum and come with varying strengths and needs. It has brought us new families and siblings from those families in mainstream also. I've been really impressed with how the staff work with the students in our special classes also. #edchatie
