The nonpartisan Center for Politics (aka Sobato's Crystal Ball) has moved the competitive California district CA-48 from Toss-up to Leans Democratic.
The leading Democratic candidates are Marni von Wilpert, Brandon Riker and Ammar Campa‑Najjar.

CA-22 and CA-48 are both ranked Toss-Up by Cook. These are both great opportunities for the Democrats to flip.
This may be huge in the midterms.
Latinos showed up in droves for James Talarico in Texas last week. Last year they showed up in the gubernatorial races in New Jersey and Virginia.
Toss-up races in Arizona, California, Colorado and Nebraska, among other states, should benefit in November.
I spoke with Dr. Jasmeet Bains about her campaign for the Democratic nomination in the highly competitive CA-22.
As a medical doctor, one of Jasmeet's priorities is to protect Medicaid and Medicare from cuts.

I couldn't summarize the importance of TOSS-UP races in just a few hundred characters. So I wrote it in the Substack.
Please let me know what you think.

CA Governor Newsom is picking up where Trump dropped the ball.
The claim in the original post is misleading.
Actually, one in five NEW-CAR BUYERS — that is, people financing a new vehicle purchase IN 2025 — have signed up for monthly payments of $1,000 or more.
Still, it is shocking news.
Hellooooo Jane!
1/ Our goal is to support Democratic candidates in the most competitive Congressional races—the ones ranked as TOSS-UP.
Don't waste your donations on races that are solidly Republican, where victory is unlikely, or on races that are solidly Democratic, where success is already assured.
In a victory for Gov. Newsom, the Supreme Court will *NOT* overrule California's new Congressional map, leaving the state with four competitive races:
CA-13 Gray
CA-45 Tran
CA-22 Valadao
CA-48 Issa

Republicans are clearly worried heading into the midterms 😃
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) said Democrat’s win in Texas is ‘not something that can be dismissed’.
Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R) called Rehmet’s victory a “wake-up call for Republicans across Texas”
thehill.com/homenews/sta...
Democrats saw another state-level victory in Texas last Saturday.
Democrat Taylor Rehmet won a district that Trump carried by 14 points back in 2024.
Democrats are building huge momentum before the midterms.

ICE is out of control. We proposed simple, common-sense guardrails: no deporting U.S. citizens, no masks, require warrants, stop excessive force.
Washington Republican leadership rejected every one.
And follow the twin site @winnablecademraces.bsky.social for news specifically on the four Toss-Up and Lean Democratic House races in California.
"History, polling, a narrow Republican majority, a string of off-year victories and voter anxiety over the economy favor the Democrats, who lead in support for control of Congress by five percentage points in a Post average of November and December national polls."

Fortunately, California is full of Solid Democratic and Likely Democratic districts, including my home district.
But the only way to flip the House is to focus our donations and volunteer energy on the races ranked Toss-Up (i.e. the "strategic" races).
One key to winning back the House is to get Democrats across all California districts focused on the state's swing races.
Winnable California Democratic Races will bring you all the election news about California's 2026 swing races (identified by @cookpolitical.com).

CA Democrats are hoping to flip Republican-held #CA22
Progressive Randy Villegas and moderate state lawmaker Jasmeet Bains are fighting for the Democratic party nomination.
The Dems are worried about party in-fighting.

“Both parties have really betrayed rural America, but the Republican Party got very, very good at seeing people and expressing solidarity and saying, ‘You’re right to be angry,’”
This is where the Democrats need to improve to start flipping rural districts.

I'm glad to see candidates like Kat Abughazaleh (IL-09) completely abandoning Twitter/X for her campaign.
Winnable CA Dem Races is also Bluesky-first. Bluesky doesn't have all the racist hatred you see on Twitter/X and it's a more effective platform to reach concerned voters.

Hang in there, California Dems.
Last Tuesday, Democrats flipped the Miami governor's office 💙💙💙 for the first time in 28 years.
AND they flipped a Georgia state House seat 💙💙💙 in an unexpected upset.

For your amusement, I mean, your consideration.
If you're feeling restless waiting for the 2026 midterms, try watching the Tennessee special House election next Tuesday. It should be exciting.
If you're committed to help flip more California House districts to Blue, you should follow @lagunabeachdems.bsky.social. They're doing a lot on Bluesky to promote Democratic candidates.
Oh, dear......
Hopefully, California's Prop 50 will stand up to the GOP's lawsuits.
But today's decision is good news for Democrats.
