I observe my Gen Z students' wild assed gender politics like an anthropologist trying to observe an alien species and struggling to comprehend.

Trump even won some border counties that no R had *ever* carried. Curious if 2 years of Trumpism is enough to erase that progress.
04.03.2026 19:10 — 👍 8 🔁 3 💬 1 📌 0For the Dems, the primary map and polls suggest quite a bit of racial polarization in primary vote choice. For Talarico, the job will be to shore up support among African Americans between now and November, because there is no path forward for a Dem in TX or nationally without strong AA support.
04.03.2026 19:12 — 👍 35 🔁 4 💬 1 📌 1Texas is a heavy lift for any Democrat, but Talarico is a strong candidate who had to contend with another strong candidate, Jasmine Crockett, just to make it out of the primary. The Democrats' fate in TX hinges on Latinos, if they can claw back what they lost in 24 they've got a real shot. 1/2
04.03.2026 17:23 — 👍 54 🔁 6 💬 4 📌 0Dems got so brain poisoned with the "demographics are destiny" nonsense that they forgot coalitions require constant maintenance. As far as 2026 goes, the main task is to bring formerly loyal voters back into the fold, and TX is a perfect test case to see how they do.

Yes. The religious left sometimes gets ignored by the Dems to their own detriment.

For Talarico, African Americans seem like the potential wild card, but my hope is that he can do some effective outreach.

04.03.2026 17:23 — 👍 54 🔁 6 💬 4 📌 0If you want to mobilize groups politically, you have to work through existing social institutions, like unions, churches, etc. In a religious country like the United States, writing off religious institutions as a key basis for political mobilization is a fool's errand.
04.03.2026 15:59 — 👍 9 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0If you're out of power and want to get back in power you need to peel away some portion of your opponent's coalition. For the Dems, this means nominating people who can speak to the religious left/center. Catholic and some Protestant clergy are creating a permission structure to vote Dem. Use it!
