To be clear, I definitely enjoy more complex storytelling and nuanced characters! But this is what my heart wants from Star Trek as a franchise. This is what brings me real joy in that universe.

As someone who grew up on TNG, SNW is everything I wanted from a new Star Trek series. Hope matters, the good guys are really the good guys, and people like me get to just exist instead of being curious alien specimens or the source of some episode's difficult moral lesson. It makes me cry.

This is a great thread, but I want to add that you need to understand dev editing BETTER if you’re self-publishing, for a number of reasons.

First, you’re hiring your editor, and you NEED to be able to understand if your editor is doing a good job.
