#OTD (6th Aug.) 1571: a letter was read at the General Assembly in Stirling from John Knox, who was forced to flee the Marian Civil War, but too frail to travel to Stirling. His letter warned against the โ€˜merciless devourers of the patrimony of the Kirk.โ€™ www.scottishrecordsociety.org.uk/membership/

Thank you! Thatโ€™s what Iโ€™d expect for Middle Scots as well, but English palaeography is new territory for me! Itโ€™s from Kendal from 1587. Persouns?

Colleagues working on #earlymodern England - which is more likely in #palaeography - โ€˜unโ€™ or โ€˜nnโ€™? For example, should one expect โ€˜persounsโ€™ or โ€˜personnsโ€™? #toomanyminims

#OTD (14th July 1408) in the CSS to C. VII & B. XIII of Avignon, 1378-1419, we find swapping of benefices due to a vacancy created when William de Lauder was elevated to the See of Glasgow, so long as he resigned the Canonry of Dunkeld and Prebendary of Russill. www.scottishrecordsociety.org.uk

#palaeography help please! What is thus contraction mark? It looks like a capital I like on Item or It. Ibidem? Itโ€™s from 1551 from the Edinburgh Hammermen: โ€˜โ€ฆbe our soverane and proveist and baillies of I[ ] this burghtโ€™ Ibid would fit?

Yeah, some fantastic material! John Smithโ€™s Hammermen excerpts barely scratches the surface, but the @scotrecsoc.bsky.social is publishing the full volume, edited by Jean Munro and Henry Steuart Fothringham. It will be great when itโ€™s out - the detail on craft altars and processions is incredible.

Yes - the notary. Itโ€™s a conundrum! Iโ€™m sure it will pop up again, but do let me know if you find it. Thanks for looking at it.

Maybe? It seems odd to have that followed by 'yis burght' though? Take a look at the capital I on Item and It - am I wrong that it looks like a I with a flick?
