Shrimpers get a third of what they got 40 years ago after inflation adjustment. Very hard to compete. The fisheries that tend to best are those that have a very strong identity like flounder, blue crab, etc. Or things that don’t transport well like oysters.
One of my department colleagues makes the top story. He puts the ”dismal” in science.
Definitely not the Ducks. They’ve been absolutely terrible this year. Could also use a coaching change IMHO.
Hell yeah
Side note, I WISH that I could produce a pricing model with a .96 R2
I’m certainly not going to put it in charge of analyzing new data if it can’t even correctly reproduce early results that have been done separately by myself and another PhD economist.
Don’t tell me I’m asking the wrong question because that’s what I’m trying to figure out what to do. I have finally gotten it to give me the correct coefficients, but it still has the wrong R2. And if it’s a matter of me needing to luck into the correct question, I might as well write the damn code.
Like a lot of economists probably, I don’t want AI to write narrative for me, I want it to write code and do math for me. And it is quite aways from being able to do that competently. I’ve been trying for three days to get it to reproduce the results of some old code.
Does anyone have a gift link for that story on the verge about AI training today?
Exclusive: The Social Security Administration’s internal watchdog is investigating allegations that a former DOGE engineer took sensitive data on a thumb drive and offered it to his current employer.
AI data companies have found rich recruiting ground among the growing ranks of the highly educated and underemployed. It is, as one industry veteran put it, the largest harvesting of human expertise ever attempted.

This is an extremely respectable chart, and I applaud the effort and also I like almost every single artist on here
The A18 Pro in the MacBook Neo is 19% faster than the M2 Ultra in the Mac Pro in single-core performance (Geekbench 6).
The MacBook Neo starts at $599.
The Mac Pro, which is still for sale, starts at $6,999.
I honestly have no idea how this stuff ends up in my phone.
I mean, it was violent squalls
We moved away from the windows
It started as tiny sleet, then it got to be a little bit bigger, but not hail
Nonetheless
Shifted back to rain now
Some violent weather today
It is sleeting in #Miami
Why are there fireworks tonight? 🤷 because it’s Miami I guess.
First dog I’ve known who gets mad rather than scared at the sound of fireworks, she burst out the back door barking and looking for something to attack
So just variations on the one topic then
One of the local television stations growing up would always do a Christmas commercial thank you from all of the staff and every year, my cousin and I would looking forward to hearing the message from Gay Balls
I remember when I wrote a article about crabbers I was happy to actually not have to wade into the whole “ do I try and put an awkward non-gender specific version in of this job type or not” for once
Oysterman
I’ve heard that before
Growing up, we used to call harvesting oysters “chiseling” and harvesting clams “scratching” so I guess you could make those into nouns
Came outside to warm up for a few minutes in the sun. Not the only one. Lagoon at the edge of the parking lot
yeah the world is a tire fire, but look at this dog
A stunning satellite shot of a powerful nor'easter.
