Yellow Swans is heading to Adelaide, Australia for Unsound on July 11th. It’s a one off with a lot of rather legendary folks sharing the bill.
I just published an interview with legendary musician Jefre Cantu-Ledesma. If you are obsessed with ‘ambient’ music (or San Francisco) like I am, this is a must-read. We dive into the history of Root Strata, his label that built up a particular West Coast scene.

If you’re after the special edition, you can get a second album, Over and Over on tape. Like the Cheri Knight record, this presents an alternate path for an American minimalism that was as inspired by Philip Glass as it channels Escape from New York cyberpunk futures.

Repetition Repetition emerged when Steve Caton and Ruben Garcia got together.. Fit For Consequences corrects a historical mistake of the staggeringly sick (and repetitive) tunes of this LA duo being confined to three tiny edition self-released tapes and a few comp tracks left in the 80s around LA.
Hey hey. Been awhile since we’ve dropped a new FTS edition and this one is a doozy. It connects all sorts of dots.. Repo Man, Tori Amos, Harold Budd…. You can dig in/order now from our bandcamp or Ffreedomtospend.com.
Lovely long interview with my old buds D Yellow Swans; nicholasc2002271.wixsite.com/nickc/interv...
I’m up on NTS later today…. 5PM PST. Spinning a set of recent grips bc all my records have been stashed for a move.. a bit of a pro-social/road trip/grip map of my recent scrambles. Lots of wild prog-pop-dance nonsense that got Matt real hyped to see me repping. Also…. MONOLITH
Minstrels & Minimoogs! Check out one of the strangest — and most delightful — reissues of the year. doomandgloomfromthetomb.tumblr.com/post/7681320...
Love seeing this sort of document popping up. Much has been lost to the virtual and commercial churn and this corrects a piece of that. Expecting nothing less than peak criticism and track selection.
Sheeesh what a gig. Timo is great. Glad I’ve been able to see him play at all..
Welp, like a lot of folks I know, been trying to be less online and more IRL but damn I have a lot of new people on here.. anyway. Next Yellow Swans show just announced for Re/Wire 2025 and yow that lineup is almost too much:
Man really one of the greatest labels/documents around
Yo. Absolutely ridiculous lineups came together for the upcoming YS gigs in Cali and Krakow. Tickets here: linktr.ee/yellow_swans...
We’ve got a video up for the lead single off this one…. Made from video from this era by Holden Lay. Here’s “Craving Your Embrace”:

Got a new one out on FTS/RVNG that’s been in the works for AGES. Richard Horowitz and Sussan Deyhim’s “The Invisible Road: Recordings 1985-1990”. Cobbled together by JAB, Richard and Sussan over several years of transfers, mixes, edits. This is an excellent follow up to their Desert Equations LP
Yoo got a new YS tape out now. out of practice II.. it’s all mangled “covers” of underground tracks from the cities histories that we played in last year….

You can scope the first track below. Vibe is sort of planetarium pop-prog gone deep into a rabbit hole along the lines of Gregorio Paniagua’s early albs plumbing early music meeting contemporary synthesis. It’s a wild one! You can grip at the FTS bandcamp or website.. tune: youtu.be/SttMqG-pnUI
Heads up Bluesky.. got a new one on FTS today.. a reissue of Gregory T.S. Walker’s Minstrels & Minimoogs album…. Previously only available in a micro-edition of about 80 copies available only at UC Boulder’s Fiske Planetarium around 1988.. so this music was performed with lasers, video, dancers..
Ok other YS thing is that we have a new tape. First recordings in 15 years. Uk/eu folks can get em for cheaper via mail orders in a little bit:

Ok YS update 1…. We’re playing shows in LA in September. In SF at The Lab and in LA at Zebulon. Tix linked below in the thread. Poster by Lee Noble:
It’s a focused listening event so doors are locked at 1:20pm and opened between sets. Tickets cover admission, coffee and tea. All profits for this one going to City Of Hope
Got a whole lot coming up this week to put on here but I’ve got a thing coming up at ESP in Denver next weekend. Playing records in the orbit of Disques Du Crepuscule. Zach Cowie is playing a set of music from Low. Tix are here:

NEW FTS LP up today. Third in the Uncommon Sense series.. DANIELLE BOUTET “PIECES” LP!!! Damn this album hits. Québécois DIY synth&mallet chanson epicness. Seriously great backwards and forwards. Grip here:

YEAH! Ern’s LP still pops up pretty regularly around Portland, but the Neighborhoods tape is quite rare. Only know this one, Jed’s copy and a copy the family owns. Very cool Bob was the one to score it
Got this model earlier this year and I love it.
Didn’t include a lot of Micus, Tibbetts and Weber records bc they’re pretty known, typical of the label and covered in a lot of ECM review articles.. but man so many freaky synth and computer music aligned things. Biiiig tip for Lask, Alien, David Torn.. WEIRD STUFF
YEAAHHH. Dan asked so thank him. There are still a ton I’m trying to pick up/check out. Didn’t include any of the excellent early music/classical stuff but that’s broadly very good. I’m not a big jazz dude so most of what I posted is quite odd.
