Just thought I'd write a little update about Jack, the doggo I was so worried about last week. He's really bounced back! It's kind of shocking really. He's eating great, going for walks (short and slow walks, but he's OLD 😄 ) and we even played a little soccer this morning (where I kick the ball a short distance and he pounces on it). Seriously, he was very ill less than 2 weeks ago and I thought I might lose him, and now there's soccer!

Jack's home 🙂 He's got kidney disease, which I expected. I didn't get the numbers, but the summary indicates it's fairly mild. Prescription food and phosphorus binding medication is the plan, with follow-up in 1 month. I'm going to have to go to Petco or something to get an assortment of kidney diets, since he's so picky. I don't want to order it by the case til I find something he likes. Anybody got some they don't need?
I know there's going to be more trouble ahead, but for now I'm just glad he's home. He's glad too 🙂

Ok, well Jack is doing a little bit better but needs to stay another day or two. In fact their pet taxi that takes animals to the 24 hour hospital isn't running tonight, so I'll be going over there to in a little bit to drive him there. It'll be nice to see him 🙂 He's going to need more fluids and medication/monitoring, and when he comes home it will probably be on medication and subcutaneous fluids, which I can do at home. So long as it's helping, I'm willing to support him that way. He still hasn't peed or pooped there today though, so I think the optimism is guarded.

Jack Jack is at the vet's today. He's been skipping more meals and a couple weeks ago the vet reassured me that old dogs do this, as they don't need to eat so much. It made sense. I'd noticed his poo being smaller lately, which made sense if he's eating less. Last night he looked really uncomfortable and this morning I woke to find bile vomit and a very small dry poop. He followed me around anxiously (as usual) but more slowly. He didn't want to pee when I took him outside. I slowly got alarmed and then he stood there staring at me and began trembling. I know he's part chihuahua, but he's never been one to tremble. I called work, said I can't come in on account of sick dog. Called the vet, they said bring him in.
I got a call a couple hours ago saying he had an x-ray and is really constipated. Then they got blood tests saying his kidneys needed help. So they're giving him IV fluids and will check again soon. Meanwhile I started reading about kidney disease and sure nuff, constipation and lack of appetite can be caused by that, especially in older dogs. Here I sit waiting, at home, hoping he recovers enough to enjoy the good times he'd enjoyed previously. At least for a while. I'm not ready to lose him yet.

I've been processing some stuff. It wasn't until my mom gave me some space that I started to reach out to her. And I'll always remember the summer I left my husband and lived with her. We watched the entire DVD box set of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It was the first time we had something in common. 🥰

How exciting! I think it's cool that your Legos are taking over now that your dad's Elvis collection has moved on. Hopefully to someone who loves Elvis stuff as much as he did. ♥️ We're doing some rearranging around our place too. It's going to b e a long process but rewarding, I think. Have fun! 💜

I think a lot about health right now, as my dog Jack is almost 16 and getting older by the minute. He's eating a lot less, and he moves more stiffly from arthritis. Though he still bounces like a puppy when a walk is mentioned.
