It's been long enough since I left my last job that when someone asks what I do, I've started saying I 'used to be' a software engineer. The shift in language feels heavy.

I should say: voluntarily taking time off before the job market for software engineering tanked, AI blew up, and Trump was reelected. My state of mind a year ago was way too optimistic.

I'm a few days away from my one year anniversary of being unemployed. What a surreal feeling. I might as well refer to this period as my mid-career retirement. Hopefully there will be a second half to my career and I didn't ruin it by voluntarily taking time away. 🤞

Obviously can't power things like the heat pump (and maybe even the well water pump - no idea what its draw is), but it can at least give us lights, keep the fridge running, use my CPAP, etc., via V2L.
