By the way, at this point I'm going to take a break on the heavy theory talk and say it's been a pleasure being able to talk open and civil about this.

The royal we out there in the world also have to stop thinking like the entire universe is run on the prisoners dilemma and act like helping another person isn't the same as cutting our own throat. Mutual aid and reciprocity lighten many loads in life.

I know that at least in my eyes the actual solution is something a lot of folks will say is impossible - the very same corporations that push this "it's for the children" surveillance state also push all of us to overwork and over stress. They need to be curtailed on that for starters.

In short - the world is so messed up right now, parents are too exhausted, stressed, and booked to properly care not only for themselves, but others, to the degree that would lead to thriving. I think we're all so blasted we're trying to survive at best and that leads to different priorities. 4/f

So am I saying it's the parents' fault and that they're terrible parents? Funnily enough, no! I actually believe that parents these days are beleaguered by exhaustive events and effects all over the place which lead to a lower amount of involvement in childcare, especially in the US. 3/?

Personal responsibility is things like making sure you adhere to social contracts and ensure safety of self, Interpersonal is things like maintaining safety of others - and there's a very large amount of interpersonal responsibility in making and raising a child. 2/?

I agree with you that the way discord and youtube and even other companies are doing this isn't the way to do it, and this is where my thoughts lie - it's because it's not their place to do it. In any world, there comes an amount of personal responsibility and interpersonal responsibility 1/?

beyond that, if they're for protecting the privacy of underage users, they don't need to do that by literally taking the identification and therefore the privacy of every other user, especially since their oh so bulletproof privacy systems got hacked to the tune of 70,000 peoples' identities in 25.

it's a prime example for those "I don't care about politics" folks - Politics is MORE than interested in you, and their choices WILL affect you - it is in your best interest to care at least a little about politics and get to know your politicians and how to tell them "Don't do this stupid shit."

I do an entryway so at the very least the scammers don't get to everyone else in the server, they just get me and my moderators. not a perfect answer, but it's something that cuts down the list.
