Hey @schumer.senate.gov, see this?
Act like it.
My spouse is writing a paper about something interesting, related to LLM deployment, and was unable to find anything like it. I'm curious if it would be patentable in the US. :)
Do I know any software patent lawyers in the US?
What a good use for gourmet coping butter!
Tell that to Titan...
Narratively having Ever Given getting stuck in 2021 to set up Hormuz in 2026 is great foreshadowing. You want your audience to understand the basics of international shipping in a lower stakes context so you drop the real plot without a lot of saggy exposition about the minutiae of cargo logistics.
I'm seeing white folks asking "can Walmart be next? Can [insert store] be next?" And it's like... Start the boycott. Black women started the Target boycott for a specific reason. There's no reason you can't start a different boycott for another reason. Just do it. Why are you asking permission.
Yeah. Memory good, imagination good, it's that gap between words and visuals that... isn't there, really.
I've seen "I hope all your victims piss on your grave" in the wild.
Allegedly, they were originally going to be Wookies, but they decided they were too large and aggressive to feel like proper underdogs. Also, of course, Ewoks are much better for merchandising.
I can *remember* visually just fine. But going from a description to an image... not easy, at all. Just in one eye and out the other.
Itβs hard to blame woke DEI when the military is losing a war because of the straits.
I thought that was supposed to happen tomorrow.
Aphantasia, apparently. In my case, it goes along with some face blindness.
I can, with some effort, visualize things, even from text, but it doesn't *stick* in my head.
As I said, it didn't come across as horror at all for me. Or creepy.
Most horror *doesn't*, and I suspect it's because I'm very bad at visualizing from text.
Yay, now that's gone too! I hope that's at least 7 happier people!
Every time we watch Sky High, when we first meet Warren Piece, I pause and say "You are the stupidest person I've ever met, and I'm standing next to James Holden."
Heads up: War for the Oaks by Emma Bull is on US Kindle sale for $3; I got some copies for random giveaway. Another instance of Amazon limiting me to 4 copies at a time, grumble.
InCryptis is by Seanan McGuire, not her very close friend Mira Grant.
All gone now, yay! About one every 30 seconds! WOOHOO! I hope that's at least 8 happier people! (And my first giveaway by this author, which means I am now up to 365 total authors!)
I don't think I can buy any libraries; if I could I could probably afford to give out copies of the book...

Cached US #KindleBookGiveaway: 6 copies of Red Sonja: Consumed by @gailsimone.bsky.social, which I *have* but *haven't read*, but I hear is very good.
WHOLE LOT of backstory. I honestly can't even say "you could start at this point in the middle" with any of them.
Go get Discount Armageddon. (Sadly, it hardly ever comes up on sale, so I haven't been able to give it out.)
Oh come on people! The *first* one is still available! amazon.co.uk/kindle/redeem/?t=GS33XWVEDSYGQNN
Yes, we've discussed this before. π
I have finished reading Butterfly Effects by @seananmcguire.bsky.social -- the newest InCryptid novel -- and pronounce it good, and everyone should read it. Which unfortunately means getting the previous 14 books.
STRAY CAT CANDIDATE IS BACK! *Super* cautious, although he doesn't seem to care about cats in the windowsill.
It is a metaphor about the need for environmental cleanup/proper waste disposal in a high-tech factory, and everyone would be wise to heed the warnings.

Cached UK/IE #KindleBookGiveaway: 5 copies of @tkingfisher.com's The Twisted Ones. This is a horror story, allegedly, but it doesn't hit me that way.
Because this is a #UKKindleBookGiveaway, you MUST have an amazon.co.uk Kindle account to claim one.
