“I Just Want to Feel Safe Going to a Doctor”: Experiences of Female Patients with Chronic Conditions in Australia The androcentric history of medicine and medical research has led to an ongoing sex and gender gap in health research and education. Sex and gender gaps in research and education may translate into real-life health inequities for women. This study ...

"Many women expressed trauma because of their experiences in health care and this often seemed to lead to a fear of accessing health services, even in potentially life-threatening situations."

I hate to say it, but in terms of HE a very sizeable number of staff appear to believe that disability accommodations are unnecessary, a nuisance, and have gone 'too far'.

Toxic, precarious and competitive university environments (that ignore staff welfare) lend themselves to this kind of thinking

Together, our findings demonstrate that men supporting women’s empowerment face heavy costs - but norms are mutable.

Policies that reduce structural barriers, address stigma around gender atypical behavior, and leverage emerging benefits can help accelerate gender-equitable change. 🎯 5/5

Extract from page 160 of the 2019 book Intelligence of Nations by Richard Lynn and David Becker, which describes the 2019 version of Lynn's "national IQ" database, which claims to provide national average IQs for nation states worldwide:

This extract appears in the section describing the samples used to calculate the US "national IQ":

"From a rural area in Southeast Alaska a low-SES sample of
Tlingit, mostly with learning difficulties, was reported by Connelly
(1983, Table 1). WISC-R FS-IQs for younger participants of 86.89
and older participants of 83.88 were averaged to an uncor. IQ of
85.39, to which 0.68 had to be added for FE-correction but 2.50 had
to be subtracted for country correction, which resulted in a cor. IQ
of 83.57."

Richard Lynn was criticised for using a sample of children with intellectual impairment to calculate the "national IQ" of Equatorial Guinea in 2002. In 2019, he calculated the IQs of Native Americans from children referred for psychoeducational evaluations, including those with learning difficulties

That’s because the purpose of biology for the right is naturalizing social hierarchy and defining a subaltern “other” to stand in contrast to the “normal”.

In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.

As a primatologist, Jane Goodall was a huge inspiration to me. I admired the way she describes chimpanzee behavior with such detail and empathy, and she’s inspired so many people and advocated for chimpanzee conservation and welfare.

However, I'm dismayed at what her narrative leaves out (1/10)

Friendly Reminder Frauengesundheit.
